hi everybody

I've recorded few new songs within last three weeks and I'd like to transfer them via wave converter to my PC. Problem is connection!!! Before I had VISTA and lot of troubles with BOSS - 800, so I bought WIN 7 and few weeks was everything OK. No issues with connection with my PC. Now, I can't do that. Still is idling... and idling and idling..etc..this problem makes me sick. Usually my recorder needs couple of restarts and than if I've got a lucky day, connection is successful. Another problem is WAVE converter - always is freezing - not responding.. no idea where could be a problem..

Any advice????

Sounds like you need the BR-800 system update available here:

http://www.roland.com/products/en/_support/dld.cfm?PRODUCT=BR-800&iRcId=53143175&dsp=1

According to that page, the problem it fixes is "BR-800 might not work correctly when connecting to a personal computer on the USB storage mode."

I guess I have been lucky so far. But the time the BR800 takes to connect is a PITA !!!

When I connect it (and choose the wave converter mode on the BR) I wait at least 2 minutes before starting the Wave converter program. If the BR isn't mounted as a drive the program won't find it and there is no refresh function, you'll have to restart the program.

Have you tried contacting Roland/Boss about the issue ?
Not sure if that would do any good, some manfacturers don't seem to be much help  :-\

Also with some devices I have found changing them over to another USB2 port seemed to make a difference.

Something else I spotted on the Roland site,
people are reporting issues if you use a larger SD card in the br800.

Yes. Unfortunately, Roland hasn't yet published the key sequence for the BR-800, as far as I know. The key sequences for the other BRs are on my website here:

https://songcrafters.org/64guitars/BR/Tutorials/FirmwareVersion.html

The BR-800 procedure is probably similar. You could try some of those procedures and see if they work. I'd start with the BR-600 procedure (hold down left and right cursor keys while powering on the BR). If anyone figures out what the correct key sequence is for the BR-800, please post it here for the benefit of other BR-800 users.

Another way to determine the version is to look at your most recent files from the BR with a hex editor. For example, here's what the file DISKINF2.BR0 from the ROLAND/BR0 directory looks like:

Notice at offset 25 it says "Ver1.00". That is the firmware version of the BR-800 which created this file. Yours may be different. If it's the latest version, it will say "Ver1.06" instead. If you don't have a hex editor, you might be able to look at the file with a text editor such as Windows Notepad. But if you do, make sure you don't save the file from the editor, as that would most likely corrupt it.

Update: My example of DISKINF2.BR0 may not be the best choice of files since it is created when the card is initialized. It might be better to create a new song and look at the SONGINF2.BR0 file in that song's folder. Since that file will be newly-created when you create the new song, you can be sure that it will show you the current system version, whereas DISKINF2 might show you the original version you had before updating (if the card was initialized before you updated). Of course, if you haven't yet tried to update, it shouldn't matter.

I've sent an email to Roland tech support to see if they'll tell me the correct power-on key sequence for the BR-800 to determine the current system version number. I'll post it here if I get a reply.
