my birthday ended with news of the good captain's passing.

My captain
Undercover
Underground
Off the beaten track
Blazing new trails
For us to follow
For you to follow
If you dare
If you just understand
Can grasp
Just a tiny fraction
Of his majesty

My captain
Dared to dare
Made me stop and think
Pushed the boundaries
The envelope
Can't you see
Or find his wavelength

My captain
Was difficult
But so rewarding
You never knew
What you where getting
Or if you'd even like it
He made you
Work for your pleasure
You had to let it grow
Let it seep in
To your very being
To your very soul

And now my captain
Has set sail

My captain
My captain

He's set sail
whit goes oan in ma heid

Sad news... I just heard....tender tribute to a true original.  The good Captain was all about the music, the hell with fame and money, he certainly had the voice and the creativity and musical soul to have gone to the top.  But it was not what he was chasing after was it.

Beautiful and a touching tribute - love your lyrics. Sad that MS took him early, what a talented man. I never really got into Zappa but I loved the good Captain.

Cheers,

A real moving tribute to the Captain, Jim. Another one of my heroes, now gone...  :'(

'Safe As Milk' was one of my favorites in his blues period, and I've struggled through 'Trout Mask Replica' and 'Lick My Decals Off, Baby', and on the strength of your 'Observatory Crest' Beefheart cover, also discovered the wonderful 'Bluejeans and Moonbeams'. There are gems to be found in all of them, some were just harder to find.

RIP, DVV.

Intensely beautiful - I love the melancholy piano progression, and your vocal is a wonderful eulogy.
I don't know much at all about him or his music - I checked out one of his CDs from the library about 18 years ago and just didn't get it at the time. Think I'm going to try again.
