ME AND MY NEW BOSS MICRO BR

Started by khkhkh, December 12, 2010, 05:35:24 AM

I just got my Micro Boss BR and find it's not as simple as it looks. At this moment I'm just enjoying playing along the mp3s before trying out other advance facilities.

Btw, if anybody can help:-

1. How do I increase the volume of the guitar without increasing the volume the mp3? Is it only at the input where it starts at 0dB and can be increased to 8dB?

2. How do I switch off the effects such as flanger, chorus, delay etc as I would like to hear the sound from scratch and build from it?

3. Is it possible for me to upload the backing tracks from the SD card as Track 1 and then record the lead guitar over it? Or do i need to import the backing track through the input?

I know there's a manual on it but I think it can only be understood by people whom are familiar with recordings etc

If I could sort out those 3 queries, it's a worthwhile purchase

Hi, welcome to the forum :)

I'm less familiar with the MBR than I was, and I'm not near the thing and its manual at the moment, so I can't give you detailed answers right now.

But I can say YES! to 3.

Turn off MP3/Trainer mode and create yourself an empty song. Then use Utility and use Track and Import. You can choose the MP3 you want to import, and the destination (in the song). I'd recommend Tracks 1 and 2 (so you get it in stereo), and then you can use tracks 3 and 4 to start recording lead along with it.

I'm about to get called away from the computer, so I can't write much more. But hopefully someone else will come in as well. I think there are links to tutorials hiding somewhere on here... have little search around.

Also - I'd highly recommend using the manual, I seem to recall that it has early sections on creating a song, recording some tracks and mixing them together. Give it a go with just you and a guitar, don't worry about getting an MP3 in for this. Record a bit of rhythm, just a couple of chords maybe, and then record yourself playing along with it. Then see about playing it back with different volumes and panning the parts left and right. Every step you take will be "oh? is that all there is to it?".

No one has to hear what your early attempts are like. Don't put too much effort into the first recordings, then you can just delete them and try it again!

It is as simple as it first looked, but you have got an initial few hours of learning the basics of creating a Song, recording some tracks and then playing them back. The minute you figure out those you will LOVE what this box can do :D

Good luck! :) (me dinner's ready!)

I found the BR to be a complicated beast to start with and the manual just makes me feel dyslexic(ha i had to spell-check that!) but as soon as you're familiar with the basic controls you'll be laughing. These videos show in great detail all the features this amazing little box has to offer  ;D

You will have to eventually get to grips with Bouncing. Bouncing tracks is a little bit of a mystery to me, in fact the last time i tried i managed to lose tracks! Which was a little distressing ;) So i basically mix everything on my pc and just use the BR to record tracks. Use this to download your tracks as mp3's http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=699
And this to mix on your pchttp://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
Luckily its all free, how cool is that  8)
However the mixing capabilties of the BR can be truly amazing, just not when i'm using them.

To question 1, you can also tweak the effect settings. press the effect button and e.g. the AMP (T1). press > and get the output level on one of the buttons (I don't have my mbr here right now).

And yeah, look at the videos, and the manual will get easier too  ... good luck
