I See your Eyes

AndyR

I've taken to listening to a song almost completely before reading the comments so far (I used to read while I was listening 1st time). Then I read the comments before I post so that I don't say anything stupid/embarrassing!

So, before I read, I could hear Bowie... but yes, Lou Bowie! And there was something else I didn't notice - but Blooby's nailed it... Big Country.

Anyway, lovely stuff. When the intro started, I was afraid that the vocals weren't going to cut through when they arrived... boy, was I wrong - excellent job on the vocals, both the singing and then getting them mixed/balanced so well.

Catchy song, with a big hook that's still going through my head.

And I loved the "La" section near the end (that's what made me think Bowie, actually). It just breaks things up and perfectly gives us a final chorus... and at the end we're left with a big satisifed smile.

One thing - look at that hook in the chorus lyrics, and then look at the title again (or at least the title you've given it in the thread title). It would only be a problem if you were marketing it, but as it stands the title ought to be "I can see your eyes". I suspect this might give you a bit of quandery - because you probably want the title to be "I see your eyes". I know and sympathise, I've struggled with this kind of thing loads of times - it's always some smart-@rse who points it out later :D. But as a punter, the hook I have in my head is "I can ... See your eyes", and if I was looking for it again (eg to pay you money to get a copy!) I might not find "I see your eyes".

I really appreciate all your comments, I actually quite like this one, it was written with a purpose in mind. In the new year, my mate Jimlad and I where thinking of playing a couple of very small pub gigs locally doing mainly covers and maybe one or two of my own. That,s why theres only two guitars and bass and some vox, drums and bass would be on a backing track.

Andy your quite right, I should change the title, as you may have guessed my songs are more or less written and then sung straight away and this was an oversite on my part,
thanks.

Blooby a big compliment about Big Country, totally unintentional, Stuart Adamson was one of my fav guitarists.

                                                 thanks again

I almost missed this. Glad I did not!  As they say around these parts "Far Out Man".

Sing as if no one were listening.
And live every day as if it were your last.

Wow! Glad I found this - again, I am deeply impressed by the recording prowess of the folks who post here!
Powerful song - anthemic guitars, emotional singing (love the backing vocals). A great wake-up tune for this Sunday morning.

Tangled Wires

You got some seriously good hooks in this song John, the rhythm and arpeggio/lead guitar parts combine perfectly. Vocally, it is one of your best I have heard, those harmonies are great.

All in all, a top tune.

Great song here John. The guitars actually reminded me a bit of Three Imaginary Boys (is that why it's called "Cure Yes".... :-) ) but the vox are all your own. You did really well to make such a simple production so compelling a listen. Excellent!

Cheers,

Nigel
