So don't kill me if i've posted in the wrong section or who knows what, this is my first post as a member of this site. Anyways, I thought I would just ask for feedback on this multitrack I did of my arrangemen of this old hymn, Be Thou My Vision, and ask if you guys think it could be made into a full-blown multitracked song with several verses?

-also, I know there's a lot of noise in the background, but I did these tracks with the built in mic.

Nice! I liked this a lot! I'd definitely like to hear a full version of this. The harmonies are great!

Hey i don`t no what kind of br you are using or what song this is but that is some great harmonies.

Make it longer and it`ll be one great tune!

are we required to use a boss product or any real multiboard to be a member of this community?

let me clarify: i'm only sixteen years old, and the only things i can afford right now are audacity (haha) and this built in mic with my computer.

We are open to all recording medium, whatever you have to make your music, we want to hear it.  The Boss MicroBR is a real nice inexpensive solution for making real good sounding recordings, and real portable, thats why a lot of us on here have them.  I think your track sounds really good, fantastic vocals.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

thank you. i do good with coming up with the best chord progressions for a thirty second clip, but i've never been one to be able to "drag something out" into a full song, cause then when i do, it sounds just that.. dragged out and repetitive. i could sure use some pointers with that kinda stuff; also, if anyone on here is really partial to dissonant music, point me to them as well!

Agree, great vocals and lovely harmonies. It could definitely make a full song but you would need to make sure you had a better microphone to cut down on the background noise a bit - that would become wearing more than your singing.

Making it longer? You identified the real issue - dynamics, if you repeat the same thing verse after vers it will be boring. So you need to think about some different treatments of the verses. I recall some hymns tend to have a structure where the first couple of verses are similar, then there's a quiter verse, then the final verse is a crescendo. So think about how you could do that with a vocal arrangement (if that's all you are using for this).

Cheers,

Nigel

Great vocals.  Your arrangement and use of music theory is really good.  Keep submitting your stuff.  I'll look forward to hearing more.

Come on, you know you want to go there...

Nice first post, Jared and welcome aboard.  Fine job of arranging and performing the vocal harmonies.

You might want to be keeping your eye out for a good deal on a (maybe used) Mirco-BR.  Might even find one on ebay for $100 or less.  You can't buy a decent mic any cheaper than that. With the M-BR you get a great mic with pre-amp plus lots of processing power.  A Micro-BR used in conjunction with Audacity would give you  lots of recording and mixing capability.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.
