Jonny cash sings this song called "one piece at a time" about a Detroit auto worker who works at a car plant that makes cars he will never be able to afford. He decides to steal a car,  "one piece at a time" . I was thinking about this song the other day and thought it may be an interesting experiment to try and create a  song "one note at a time" . Here are the ground rules of this challenge.

1.   You may only contribute one note at a time, Chords are considered one note, no arpeggios.

2.   You may contribute as many times as you want, but never consecutively. So for example, If I add a note/chord, I cannot add another note/chord until after someone else adds something.

3.   You do NOT have to add your note at the end of the current phrase, feel free to layer notes on top of each other.

4.   You can chop up, reorder and even delete notes that have already been added. (be careful)

I have no idea if this will work, I suspect it will turn out rather abstract, the sonic equivalent of  that children's game where you fold a piece of paper into three parts and get three different people to draw 1/3 of a picture without the ability to see what the others have drawn, but who knows?

Here is something to start with.

Of course! Any instrument, including your voice, is acceptable as long as you stick to one note/chord rule.

I started things off with the pluck of a Gopichand. It seamed appropriate to start off a "one note at a time" challenge with a one stringed instrument.

Flipping hell, this sounds like it came straight from the Flaming Lips new album.  Wonderful soundscape here.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

I just wonder how a skype collab would come out.

You're right we should definitely try this.
