Sorry to say this but geeze you guys can't half be childish.

The chap has a preference. He didn't come over here trying to start a war or anything.

He actually came to help out and was being genuine in his post.

You're all pulling this elite 'songwriters' bullshit out but did you even stop to think about what it says at the top of this forum?? "Home Recording & songwriting community"

Did you not think that maybe he thought some of you may have wanted to expand on things? or as has already been pointed out wasn't aware that this used to be dedicated to the MBR etc?

Oh and also on the point of studio engineers not being songwriters/musicians

WTF, I didn't say that there weren't guys that do both, I even mentioned three names from this very site that were more this type.  Thats nit-pickery my man.

Now this is going too far sir, I never said that songwriters were elite and all that, you said that.  I said there were two distinct mindsets in these kind of arguments and that each side has a hard time understanding the position of the other side.  I also said that each type is essential and need to work together for the betterment of music everywhere. You sir are looking for a fight with crap like this.  MDV had the decency to accept my offer to argue this over beers, I think you are looking for a more pugilistic sort of dialogue.  I want nothing to do with that.  Lets keep it a discussion over beer shall we.

Back to the discussion then...How about this guy, I like him, and I like that new Neil Young Album.

QuoteDaniel Lanois (pronounced /lænˈwɑː/, lan-wah)[1] (born September 19, 1951 in Hull, Quebec) is a Canadian record producer, guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. He has released a number of albums of his own work and has produced albums for a wide variety of artists, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, and Willie Nelson. Lanois is best known in his role as a producer, collaborating with Brian Eno, producing a number of albums for U2, including The Joshua Tree. His work in this capacity has brought him critical acclaim, with more than one of his clients' albums honored with the coveted Grammy Award for album of the year.

And what about good old Neil Young, certainly knows his way around a studio, then turns around and puts out a song recorded on a tape recorded infront of his fireplace "Will to Love".  Thats a funny one, his motto is just get er recorded as fast and simple as possible to keep it fresh, and don't go in mucking about with all that frequency analyzer stuff.  Funny guy.

Its a stupid debate that has raged for many years.  Was George Martin really the fifth Beatle, did he contribute to the creative process or just record those chaps...the debate rages on even to this day.

I'm fairly certain that Everyone is ready for this thread to end. It's no longer productive, and since the first post it hasn't been. There was and IS a lot of good information in it, even with the difference in opinions.

While we can't agree on certain aspects, we can all agree that this is ridiculous, and it's time to stop.

I actually dont want any kind of conflict quite the opposite i just think the attitude in general stinks as you all attacked someone who was trying to help.

And i wont comment on those 'artists' as i have no interest in them whatsoever and my opinions would probably offend
