Here's a new little ditty that's not easy to dance to but reflects a certain state of mind which is not necessarily my field, but it's close. There's (soft) Mellotrons in there...  :)

Thanks for listening,

Pretty cool sounds. Which soft synth did you use and what did you use for a controller?

Holy moly I like this Cuth, so what now, you got a real Mellotron there with all your other authentic gear collection.  What a beautiful sound, simply stunning in its warmth.  Whatever you used to get that Mellotron sound, its gold, very authentic sounding.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Thank you Jim, Kari, Dunny, 64G, & Dave!

This was a little sketch I created just before dinner yesterday evening, and then I added some finishing touches (sound effects) to it later on last night. Not my usual recording fare, but I was experimenting a bit (more about this later).

Thanks Jim & Dunny. I didn't know much about Goldfrapp before your post - checked them out, and I like what I hear! I must confess: I have a weakness for this type of music, especially when it's sung by a beautiful lady with a sexy voice. Never heard of these 'Beatles', though...  ;)

But seriously, thanks so much the comparison. And Jim, snow already? We got some freezing rain in Maine yesterday; it almost looked like snow in the grass.  :-\

Thanks 64G & Dave - this was my first song recorded using Cubase 5 Essentials, which I got for Xmas last year but hadn't used very much up until yesterday. I learned a little bit about it, but even this budget DAW runs pretty deep.

I'd love to have a real Mellotron if I had lots of money or was very handy with electronics repair, or even had the space in the house for it! But alas I have none of these, so for the Mellotron sounds I used M-tron Pro loaded as a VSTi in Cubase...those are the 'Flutes Basic' and 'Cello Basic' patches you hear, panned left and right respectively. There's also a string machine pad being played and percussion was hammered out using KeyWriter VSTi, which has only typewriter sounds. All nice retro sounds.  8)

I used a Novation ReMote 25SL keyboard and played each part live while recording, and then looped the best percussion measure afterward.

Finished it with a Help Desk office recording from freesound archive, which is bookended by clips from the Phone Recording Archive.

All in all a lot of fun to do and it was a learning experience, too. Thanks again everybody for the nice feedback - I appreciate it.

very cool piece of music here Cuth. I've been exploring a similar style lately. I never thought I would, but it's so addictive.
