After a few troubled weeks I finally got round to to recording my ideas for this.  It still needs some work, but as suggested by the project writer and instigator, Trevor - here is "Harlequin Sitting" in its - "we're getting there state".

Edit: after listening to the comments and much fiddling - I have got near to where I want to leave this.  For the new version and comments please see my latest post in this thread.  Thanks

Just jumping on for a few minutes while avoiding the trolls and huldras in Geir-land (I am currently a few miles across the fjord from where he lives). I really like the direction of this, the feel is kind of Tom Waits- ish and it really suits the lyrics. I like what you are doing with the vocals, my only advice would be when doubling them, try to get them quite similar in phrasing, there are a couple of places where the two parts are a little too different and that "sticks out". I like the harmonies in there.

Keep going, this is headed the right way!!!

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks for the listen to the proto - this versions is a little closer I think.

Gritter

All f*$#ed up in the best way...this is a very expressive piece and adds a gem of an off-beat out-of-step self examination to the proceedings...fits perfectly.

Your song really injects something new to the opera, expanding it's scope and making it more well-rounded.

And the 2nd version is a great improvement on the previous take.  The tracks are competing with each other less.

Nice work.  Very inspired and inspiring.

The vox sound much better on this version but I'm afraid I prefer the first mix for the instruments. I love the way the solo guitar sits quite wide in the first mix and kind of echoes the vox. The second one sounds too "narrow" in the stereo image for me and the instruments have lost some of their clarity. It gets better when you bring the guitar up in the last part of the song. But it's your call - I love the overall feel here.

I tend to agree with Nigel here, the first one is more wide open, which works better for me too.  I really love the, as Sandy calls it "All f*$#ed up in the best way" rhythm.  That part works well.  I feel a little queasy, dizzy even from this, off-kilter, can't quite get my bearings...thats how the little dude is feeling, and I feel it too.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places
