Smooth Lead

Hi there,

Any of you guys know which effects pedal in real life produces this kind of overdrive that the Smooth Lead patch produces?

Geir

Don't have the MBR with me now, but as all the MBR patches uses AMP-simulation for the overdrive/distortion, I don't think you'll find a stomp-box giving the same sound.

Are you trying to get the same sound live? What amp are you using?

yes I am trying to get the same sound live, hopefully. I'm using a Blues Jr. Tweed. I checked the microBR and the amp simulation says BG Lead. I wonder what BG means or if it pertains to a certain amp.

I believe that the BG lead is based on the Mesa Boogie, similar to the amps Santana was using in back in the day.  It gives that creamy sustain like his tone.  I am not sure that a Blues JR will get exactly that tone.  You would have to put a tubescreamer or Boss Blues driver type of pedal in front, and probably a compression pedal also, those two may get you close, with your Blues JR maxed out on gain and "fat" switch on.  That would be my starting point.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

yep i was trying to figure out what sort of pedal would give me that sound. it even sounded better when i used my little marshall practice amp (G15RCD) with the microBR using Smooth Lead. Mids heaven! Sounded like eric johnson. that's what prompted me to look for a pedal that does the Smooth Lead sound.

So a TS type pedal would do?

I can't help with your quest, I'm merely jumping in because I have questions too.

I almost never play with a real amp, and when I do, I'm a duck out of water. My guitar experience is completely isolated to MBR patches. If you know me, then you know I have ample toys to play with, but I'd like to squeeze the most out of an amp exclusively, just because.

hi. may i ask what patch did you use in cause we've ended as lovers?

I'm pretty sure I used the Smooth Lead patch on that. I'm addicted to it. I will see what I can do about duplicating it tonight to verify. I'm terrible about writing down settings.
