"How young are you?"
© 2010 by Nadia Cripps

My friend is feeling sad
She is approaching her fifty's mark
I think she should be glad
That she is not old and look for a spark

People often ask how old are you
But I think this phrase should be revised
Since the word "old" makes me feel rather blue,
Alters my mood, making me badly surprised

What if we switch to how young are you
And make fifty twice smaller - twenty five
Now, that sounds much better in my view,
Straight to the point and more effective

When I expect my big day arrive
I'll celebrate being twenty five
Who wants to join me in remaining young
It's not hard to say and could be sung

We are twenty five, let's celebrate
Everyone's welcome to join and take part
Let's all feel young and dedicate
This song to everyone who is young at heart

Lots of times when people hit 40, they start to consider such ramifications. Myself, when I hit 40 I had accomplished a milestone, I was eligible for military retirement, I threw a party. I always wondered what things would be like when I was 46 at the turn of the century, gee, eleven years later, I still wonder about things. It's okay to let your mind get outside of what is hapening right now and think about the future without dreding the past (I hated history in school...) Creativity has many directions and dimensions. Writing about your life, about someone else, about a place or a time, someting real (reality) or fictitious, there many ways you can "travel" with your music. But be sure you don't let an idea go to waste, if you get stuck on an idea, write it down and look at it later, you never know... "There's no better time than the future" a song I have been working on lately.
