Farmjazz

This is one of my favorite David Grisman compositions. Very simple ii - V - I in G Major, with no bridge. He told me he wrote it for his ex, and that I can use it whenever I want, because the album (Acousticity) is out of print now.

I use it as a soloing assignment for my mandolin students, but any instrument can solo in the spaces between my example solos.

This song has a lovely feel and reminds me of two lovers spending an afternoon together talking and just enjoying each others company.

I hope you enjoy it!

this is beautiful just reading up on mr grissman he seems quite a guy. funnily enough there was a documentary on bbc4 about the guy who formed elektra records, i see dave had one of his first signings with that label and also played on tom paxtons elektra album morning again.

anyway i digress, another top notch post farmjazz straight to my piepod.

I always know when I click on one of your tunes, I'm going to get scary-good quality and performance.

Oddly, my favorite thing about this is the mellow comping in the background. That's not to detract from the mandolin. It would be easy to make the melody sound sterile in something like this, but your sense of time is impeccable in this offering.

Other than some stuff he did with Mark O'Conner and the hippie connection with Rob Wasserman and Jerry Garcia, I'm not familiar with his work. You've inspired me to go investigate further.
