For anyone who might be light on their Daniel Johnston knowledge, there is a documentary called "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" which will enlighten you.  A lot of it is Daniels own recordings which he was prodigious about making.  Personally, I like his visual art a wee bit better than his music, but its all the height of creativity.  Netflix has the movie.
