Lullaby for Maxime

This is a song that I recently wrote/recorded for my new grandson, Maxime. This is my first grandson and I'm very happy about it, but it makes me feel, well, for lack of a better word ... OLD! Oh well.

This is also the first recording I've done with my newly-purchased Godin nylon-stringed guitar. Lots more coming from this one-piece cherry back and sides, solid cedar topped beauty.

I'm not super wild about this composition, but it is written to put the little man to sleep. I just wanted to share it, that's all. Maybe it will help put someone else's fussy baby down.

I would be remiss to not mention that the piano counter melody was written by Lorraine Fusare. Thanks, Lori!

I think it's a beautiful composition.  :) Soothing, but with nice variations as well. The piano counter melody is lovely too.

Honour the earth. Without it, we'd be nowhere.

Life is too important to take seriously.

Yes, it does sound very nice. Reminds me that I must compose something for my godson ... :)

I think if you reduce the frequencies around 600-800 Hz by maybe 3 dB, it will sound even sweeter. It sounds a little boomy on my PC speakers. But the speakers are cheap, so they might fool my ears.

Very nice playing. There are so many great guitarists here ...

You're right Steffan, this mix sounds terrible. For some reason its WAY too hot and distorted. I'm going to re-mix and switch files on Monday.

My apologies to anyone suffering through hearing this first post.

Edit - Oct. 24th - Okay, its fixed now. I think you will enjoy this much more now.

Nice composition and performance, Farmjazz and Lori. Love your guitar playing.

I'm a big fan of Godin guitars. Aren't they great?

I don't think there's anything wrong with this mix at all. However, the sound quality may be suffering from the low MP3 bitrate (128 kbps). The file is only 2,448 KB. Why don't you try making a new MP3 at 192 kbps? It will probably sound a lot better and still be under our 6MB limit.

It does not sound terrible at all. Just a little bit of EQing on the sum should do. The distortion, if there is any (can't listen now to check), can indeed be caused by the mp3 rendering. Make sure to have enough headroom when you render your track. For your track 0.6  - 1 dB should be enough (i.e. keep the master at about -1 dBFS, and everything should be fine.

If there is still distortion, you may have to check the compression settings.

Damn, I wanted to put this song (and others) on my mp3 player, but I forgot it ... So I must listen again tomorrow. Time for sleeping now.
