Another composition based on a lyric by Paul Dempsey.

I'll upload a couple of bed tracks in different keys with the next posts.

Violets To Lilies
(Paul Dempsey, 2009)

Like a seed in late February
Buried beneath the snow
Life will soon emerge
When love begins to flow

Held close and nurtured
The future is prepared
It's a journey undefined
In any direction dared

   Violets to Lilies
   A path predefined
   The beginning and end
   Are so intertwined
   Violets to Lilies
   It's all by design

The young always blossom
As they weather the years
But days start getting shorter
As the evening appears

The nights get a little colder
Dawn seems farther away
Time is now measured
Not looking beyond today ....

But the lilies will restore virtue
As they're pedals wither and die
While the violets will stand true
As they whisper a sad good-bye

   Violets to Lilies
   A path predefined
   The beginning and end
   Are so intertwined
   Violets to Lilies
   It's all by design

Bedtrack no. 1 (the original key). I think the song is a tad too slow. If anybody wants to help me redo it from scratch (i.e. with real instruments), that would be great.

Very nice bed track, Stoman. I shall listen for a while, see what calls out to me.

Thanks, can't wait to hear it. :)

It's just a quick draft, so feel free to change parts if necessary.

Nice work.  I don't think it's too slow, especially given the flute and overall feel.  Feels just right to me.

Come on, you know you want to go there...

This is very beautiful!!  Listening alone it was hard for me to tell which was verse's and chorus's.  Guess my ears are the best at defining. LOL  I think it would sound great with vocals.  but it also stands on it's own!!  Very nice!!

Thanks, guys! I really hope to find a singer for this song. I've been searching for years ...

I should have mentioned that the first verse starts at 0'21. The first flute part is just the intro. The flute is meant to be replaced with vocals throughout the rest of the song.

I know I listened to this before, thought I had commented already ...
Very pretty and soothing, yet there's some good energy to it too. There's a flourish of notes at about 2:30 that really stands out as a nice change.
I like the lyrics, and the flute melody really allows me to follow them and imagine them sung - if it were a female singer, I can hear someone like Natalie Merchant. If male, someone like James Taylor. I can also imagine this as a powerful mid-tempo acoustic song.
