The vocals still sound a tiny bit too loud in my unreliable ears. But I think the mix works pretty will anyway. I'll listen with headphones when I'm in bed - I have all the Geir songs I've found so far on my MP3 player anyway. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys !!!

This has been a lot of fun. FF's lyrics are so great and the different music we've made really fit quite well together I think !!

Quote from: FuzzFace on October 11, 2010, 05:21:26 PMIn my head, this is a musical on-stage.
For this scene, the main character is singing to an empty chair in at a table.
During the guitar solo are dramatized flashbacks of the couple in the painting, dressed the way they are in the painting.
Then he looks in the mirror and an actor/singer is playing his reflection, and steps out of the mirror providing the backup vocals.
You're quite visual in your art, not unlike myself ! I like the picture you paint here !!

Steffen, I do agree with you to some point. I did master this one on my koss portapro headset and when listening to the mix on my monitors tonight the vox seems a tad to high ... in the beginning at least. But I think I'll stick with it, because in order to lower the vox I'd have to add more compression, and I rather like the dynamic of the vox-track as it is. When I get a better mic (like Mikes Røde nt1a ) I hope it will be easier to get a good balanced vox without compromising.

cheers guys !!

Oh well ........

This is the only version I've heard.

It would be a great song even without the electric surprise in the middle. But with it, the emotional core of the song goes to a different place.  I really have mixed feelings about it.  The interlude adds so much drama and conflict to the song, yet the rest of the song carries of tone of sad resolution--not one of conflict; the conflict is over.

A conflicted response.  I can tell why you keep reworking the song. It's on the verge of greatness.

Acoustics sound so much better now when playing with the vox and the electric part is even more powerful. Vox sound great throughout, I still like the rough edge of the original in parts but these are great, the doubling works well. Superb, really, really good work here.

The vox are still a tad loud in places, not much but I think Steffen is right. The perils of mastering on headphones only. But it's not as noticable as the previous mix because the acoustics blend in better. But this time it's not enough to spoil the mix, whereas previously the vox dominated in parts when listening on monitors only. So I say keep it unless you really want to do some more twiddling!

Fantastic work Geir, well done indeed.

Cheers,

Nigel

It all sounds great to me, but most importantly and obviously, it is another wonderful contribution to this mad Picasso Songbook. Superb.  Oh yea, and the solo is ace!
