Peace O' Mind
w/m Dave Berry, recorded on BR-1200
Segull acoustic, mandolin, bass, Godin xtSA, GR-20 synth, harmonica

Probably my last submission for Piratefest, running out of time.  Another tale of a melancholy pirate, I guess thats the way I see the old Pirating life, hardship, terror, and longing to go home.  Mainly acoustic for this one.  This Piratefest has really inspired me.  Thanks to Henwrench who suggested this idea and pushed for it.  It turned into a great fest after all is said and done, some dandy songs got posted.

Peace O' Mind

The Prophets of old, who foretold the events of my life,
surely didn't know days like these.
Standing on the deck, with the waves crashing around,
all at once I fell to my knees.

I pray to the Gods of the deep
Take this pain from my heart
I've done so many nasty deeds
I fear it's too late to make a new start
Please can't you hear my plea
I'd give anything for a little peace o' mind

The day I joined the ship, the capt'n took me aside,
you're gonna see things that'll make your blood boil.
Out on the ocean deep, societies rules do not apply,
we live and die by the sword not the soil.

CHORUS

There are tales told by pirates
of a creature feeding on souls
if your heart is black as night
it'll cut it out to make fools gold
You've but one chance of escaping
when the dark creature comes around
repent your sins and pray to god
you don't make a sound.

Every-time I think of the things I have done,
I can't drink it away with the rum.
Brethren of the ship, let me off at the nearest port,
I've got to get back home to my wife and son.

Dave, one day i'm going to board your ship, we'll play guitar and sing of the pirate life!Nothing but the sea, sky , music and whisky!
As Rob says, your best singing to date, great song, loved it immensely.
