New acoustic stab at this tune is located here.

We had another go at this tune.  We transposed it up a whole step, but those first few low vocal lines are a killer. John the singer absolutely nails the outro, though.  Actually gives me chills. The tune is coming along slowly.

The boys will probably kill me for posting this, but I couldn't resist this quirky offering. Love the dichotomy between the narcoleptic beginning and bombastic outro. This is "Overdrive" by Bobby Lee Rodgers. Although he was the youngest jazz guitar teacher ever hired at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, I praised his offbeat songwriting in another post.

MoO got together Thursday with a new drummer, and I really wanted to try something sparse. Everett and myself try hard to stay out of each other's way on guitar, and I thought this song would be a good test. Don't know if we'll keep it in the rotation because the beginning vocals start too low, but if we transpose it, the outro could be a huge strain.

Recorded live to the BR-1600 in the living room.  Sorry for the inexplicable drum drop-out.

Peace.

You try to erase who you could be
But it's not gonna get them very far.
A higher prescription is what they need
To see past the hood ornament on their car
You know what you need to survive.
You got to kick it into overdrive.

A barrel of blood is what they need
So pull the veins out of your arms.
Sooner or later, they will feed
Like squealing, little pigs, eating out in a barn
You know what you need to survive.
You got to kick it into overdrive.

It's not gonna get them very far.
So pull the veins out of your arms.
A higher prescription is what they need
To see past the hood ornament on their car
You know what you need to survive.
You got to kick it into overdrive.

I think this is great , regardless of the the low intro , i would'nt let that stop you keeping it in your rotation , excellent post

Personally, I'd keep this in any set-list. I'd even open a live set with it. In my distant past, I always used to really like opening with slower, softer songs. It is the last thing the audience expects and helps settle the band down, nerves fading fast. I don't know who did this originally, a great song.

I like the way it ramps up as the song progresses... a very effective way to gather up the listeners and take them along for the ride.  Seems like it would be a good one for live performances.  I like the way the two guitars are working with each other.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

This last one is tight as a whales ass, and I agree he nailed the outro.
