Babs and Gritts, thats rich.  You were quite the ladies man in your day Gritts.

The White stripes, wait a moment...I thought they were brother and sister...you mean that was some weird publicity stunt.  There is something kinda dirty in a kinky way about that couple.

They were married at one time (as were Barbra and I), then Jack took Megs last name when she adopted him. They are second siblings once removed.

creepy irony: My sister's name is Barb. And that's the truth!

And I heard their grandpa and grandma were the same person.  He changed his clothes a lot, you never saw them in public together, lots of grey wigs.  It was never determined if he/she was a he or a she.  Must be from the back hills of the Smokie Mountains or something.

Your sister is named Barb, and you are shown in a picture snuggling up to Babs, creepy irony indeed.

I must admit, the idea of two concurrent festivals does appeal somewhat. I think I only missed the ZappaFest due to lack of interest. But I do LOVE the whole 'Fest' concept.... it makes me push my bounderies, makes me do shit I've never done before, like doing a cover anyway....

I'm not much hip on the two fests at once deal, but I'm not against it either. I like the idea of overlapping festivals. Maybe each festival should last 6 weeks but a new festival starts at the beginning of each month?

I'd also like to suggest a festival in which writing might be a possibility. Ie, Beatles fest pretty much makes it impossible to write and record a song for that festival. Unless you happen to be Macca or Ringo. Have we suggested festivals like 'prog rock' or 'british invasion' where you can cover a song or write one that fits the category as well as possible? I know we did Punk, and I liked that one, contributing a cover and an original. So I guess I agree, that while bands are cool sometimes, it's better in general (imo) that they be more styles or whatnot. A singer-songwriter challenge where the idea is to do a one instrument (two at most) and vocal rendition of a well known full arranged song (either classical, or rock or whatever.)

Then again, I'm still in writing mode. Come January I'll be able to participate more in the cover challenges.

The admin team (less Mike who's on holiday) have discussed some ideas for the festivals and have decided on the following:

  • We will have two concurrent festivals from now on, each lasting two calendar months.
  • For one of the festivals, we'll vote for an artist whose songs we'll cover. For the second festival, we'll vote on a theme or genre (original songs welcome, if appropriate for the theme).
  • Since the number of voters is usually pretty small, we've decided to limit the number of choices to 7 for each festival. If voting picks up, the number of choices could be increased in future polls.
  • All of your suggestions for poll choices are being kept in a list, and the admin team will choose seven of them for each poll. So don't be offended if your suggestion doesn't make it to the current poll. It could very well be included in a future poll.
  • Due to the limited choices in each poll, you'll only be allowed one vote. Although, you can still change it any time before the poll closes.

The artist festival this time is DylanFest, and you can vote for the next theme festival here:

Both festivals will start October 17th. We'll also still have our annual YuleFest in December (starts Dec 1). All three will end December 31st and a new pair of festivals will start Jan 1, 2011. I chose these dates because I want future festivals to always start on the first of the month. Also, it gives us an extra two weeks for DylanFest and the chosen theme festival. So, the YuleFest won't detract from those festivals as much. Voting for the Jan/Feb festivals will start sometime in December and will probably last a bit longer than usual due to the Christmas holidays.

I hope everyone likes the new arrangement. If not, please be patient and give it a chance, at least until Spring. Then we can discuss other changes, if necessary.
