Ways To Have Pattern End on 1/8th. Note Only?

Sorry for the awful, confusing title of this thread.

I'm curious about possible ways to have a rhythm pattern solely contain an 1/8th. note snare beat at the very end of a 4/4 pattern. i.e., the way that 'Like A Rolling Stone' and 'Every Breath You Take' each start. (If I'm right, then the beat I'm talking about is the 'and' of 4-And in a 4/4 arrangement).

I didn't think that it was possible to have a pattern that contained only one note or a part of a note, but in another thread, 64 Guitars said the following which makes me think that this may be possible
Quote from: 64Guitars on October 15, 2008, 02:25:26 PMSometimes it's useful to supplement the BR's rhythm track by recording a drum or cymbal sample to an audio track and copying it where it's needed in the song. ........You can bounce a pattern to a track, then use the BR's editing capabilities to delete everything but the desired cymbal. This is easier to do if you temporarily slow down the tempo before bouncing the pattern. Once you've extracted the cymbal, you can then copy it to anywhere it's needed in the song.

Better still, you can download cymbal samples from the internet and import them to a track, then copy where needed. This page has links to lots of sites where you can download cymbals, drums, and various other samples (including tambourines):

Another good source of cymbals, drums, and other rhythm embellishments is an electronic keyboard instrument. For example, my Yamaha PSR-2100 has 186 drum samples in 16 kits, plus sound effects and fills. I can select a drum kit and play the note corresponding to the crash cymbal, for example, wherever I want it in my song. By connecting the Yamaha to the Line In of my BR, I can record this to an audio track to supplement the drum arrangement.

Using these techniques, you can create a basic drum arrangement with the Micro BR's built-in preset patterns and its locked-in panning, then record some embellishments to an audio track which can be panned anywhere you like. You can even adjust the panning during the bounce to create some movement.

So, is 'editing' the way to do what I want, or is there some other way?

I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this....

Thanks

This is way beyond my limited technical abilities. Sorry...  :)

It's not possible to edit patterns on the Micro BR. Its drum machine uses preset patterns only.

What I was talking about in the other message is recording drum sounds as audio tracks. This is something quite different from the drum machine. However, you can use the drum machine as the source of the drum sounds for the audio tracks by bouncing. Then you can use the BR's track editing features to delete unwanted sounds and/or copy or move sounds to other parts of the track. But all of this is regular audio and cannot be accessed by the drum machine for use in a drum arrangement.

So, yes, you can record a solitary snare drum sound and place it at the end of a measure, but it isn't a pattern and can't be used in a drum arrangement.

By the way, in both of the songs you mentioned, I believe that the snare sound you're referring to is on beat 4, not the 'and'. This actually makes the track editing easier since you can specify the destination of a track copy operation as 001-4, which means measure 1, beat 4. Or, if measure 1 is a count-in, then copy to 002-4 instead (measure 2, beat 4). See pages 53 and 54 of the Micro BR manual.
