Just to let you know I'm back.

I left my internal editor on holiday so I've been able to sneak this song in, based on all those hackneyed blues riffs and chords patterns that he normally won't allow me to use.  Geat fun to do and lots of improv's.  May be the start of a new series of songs -  "The Trouble with Love"  ::)

Drop Dead Gorgeous
Copyright Leigh Wright

No sooner than,
She's got you – dancing,
To her tune,
Then she leaves you standing,
Like everybody's fool
You can't resist her
Drop dead gorgeous

Drop dead gorgeous
With a mind like a skewer,
She'll dance you crazy,
Then leave you forever,
You can't resist,
You can't resist her
Drop dead Gorgeous

You can't resist her,
You know she's a killer,
A body of passion,
Has the world at her pleasure,
She'll leave you standing,
Like everyone's fool
You can't resist.

Drop dead gorgeous.

Great smokey blues, I can imagine the subject matter in just the kind of bar it sounds like you recorded this in!

Cheers,

There is nothing hackneyed about this Leigh.  Just old-school, old-time vibe and style.  And there is a slight quirkiness to the arrangement that is unmistakable Gu Djin magic thrown into the mix for good measure.  The only thing I would say here, your vocal seems a little hot, almost clipping (but not quite), is that intentional, maybe a little too much on the bottom end.  I would be tempted to dial the vocal back about, or maybe drop some low end EQ to let it have a little more room to sit in the mix.  Minor stuff, maybe I am just crazy (its ok, you can tell me).  I like this one a lot Leigh.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Cheers Nigel and Dave:   Just a fun thing for me to do.  I agree that the vocal is a bit hot.  I ran a cheapo dynamic through a distorted guitar effect patch looking to roughen up my tones a bit, so it's pretty much undo-able, though at the moment I still prefer that sound to the unadorned me!.

What is this quirk?  ;D  - Are you referring to me stretching the timing sooo faar it won't come back LoL.  It happens a lot on my keyboard playing!!  One day I'll learn to quantise my brain and everything -  or maybe I won't. :)

Thanks for the listen. :) :)

Great piece of music really well crafted, I,ve just got back from my hols in the USA and it reminded me of the good nights I had in the Nashville honky tonks. Top notch..........Willie
