Yes, the second one sounds smoother, better mixed or something.  I hear this as a kind or space-cowboy song.  Out on the plains of Ganymede, riding on a strange alien horse, the purple sky overhead.  ORH where are you...?  A song is in need of a lyric and vocal.

I really dig the song Willie. The volume swells in the melody are fantastic. The lead guitar work is excellent. That bass is inspiring. Excellent.

It's like it's the rough sketch for the much greater song that will follow it.  Everything's nice, but now it's finished I can't say I remember much about it.

I did like the bass - sounded like a real bass sent via a compressor with a long attack setting?  Nice sound.

For me it needs some dark - light relief, maybe some synth pads here and there.

Nick's suggestion re contrast (light/dark) might be interesting to follow up.
Lyrics and vocals would also be fine addition.
