My Eyes Are The Only Ones You See
(Darlene C. McCoy 2009)

Just another day of wine and roses
With a note attached that says you can't make it
I try so hard just to keep my head up
But I miss you so much, it's hard to fake it

This day wasn't any different
Than all the others before
Always putting me off
and it's getting so tough
I think I can't take it no more

How did I get caught in this collage
Of different faces looking back at me
Paint me a portrait that is only for you
And my eyes are the only ones you see
My eyes are the only ones you see

The fight is so strong in me
To give up and tell you goodbye
My guts are torn and wrenching
and I don't see an end in sight

You keep saying that you love me
But I don't see how that is the truth
When everything comes before me
And everyday you show me the proof

How did I get caught in this collage
Of different faces looking back at me
Paint me a portrait that is only for you
And my eyes are the only ones you see
My eyes are the only ones you see

Why do I wait here in line
waiting for my turn, my time
I've cried so many tears
Why do I have to be so blind

How did I get caught in this collage
Of different faces looking back at me
Paint me a portrait that is only for you
And my eyes are the only ones you see
My eyes are the only ones you see

A lovely composition and arrangment, Steffen.  :) And Michael did a great job with the vocals.
The song turned out well.

Honour the earth. Without it, we'd be nowhere.

Life is too important to take seriously.

This song is so utterly incredible in every way.
I find it difficult to believe that including myself their are
only 3 comments on this?

If there is just one person somewhere out there who feels touched by this song, it was worth the effort. Thank you all for your kind comments! This is one of my favorite songs. :)

It may be too slow and soft for the majority of people though ...

It's a bit busy here these days Steffen, don't feel bad about not getting a lot of immediate attention. Also, don't feel bad about responding to people's comments so that you get pushed back up the first page.

This is a very high quality piece of work, the vocal performance is fantastic, especially when he goes into the higher register. As you suggest, it's a bit gentle for me, but it oozes quality in the arrangement and production. I really like the lyrics - they are a great example of this genre. It's easy to get a bit "cheesy" with this kind of song but these are very good indeed.

Cheers,

Nigel

That's a good point Nigel. I know sometimes for myself , I dont want to respond to my own songs for fears it'll look like i'm into some sort of self promotion.
It's very professional sounding Steffen. I'm hearing a bit of Billy Joel here, who is one of my favorites.
I'm a fan.

Thanks, Nigel and Kenneth! Much appreciated. :)

At other (German) sites I'm at, leaving comments unanswered would rather be interpreted as egoistical and arrogant because people who spend their precious time listening and commenting on our songs DESERVE some reaction.

But those sites are all about feedback and helping each other. If you post your songs there you want to hear what people honestly  think about them and what can be improved (and, of course, what already is good).

So, long story short: I had never actually thought about the possibility that responding to a comment could be interpreted as bumping the thread. :)

Very nice ballad.  Nicely sung and arranged.

By and large, jazz has always been like the kind of a man you wouldn't want your daughter to associate with.

OK to cover but please let me know first.  Thanks!

I like this one a lot - It reminds me of the solo singer period of the mid seventies to early 80's.
