Not strictly pirate, but I saw it stated somewhere that shanty-type would count.  :) (If not, moderator, feel free to remove this post.)

The idea came from a postsecret.com card that I came across two months ago. Someone had written "I got up at 5 in the morning to go out hauling with you, not because I like lobster, but because I like you. Take the hint." How could I resist it?  ;D

Just a bit of fun.   ;)

Take The Hint

(v1)
You're a lobster fisherman's daughter
The light of your daddy's eye
He's taught you the ways
Of the briny deep
The play of sea and sky
You dream of taking over
'The Neptune' by and by

Pre-chorus
I arise at 5 in the morning
To go lobster hauling, it's true
But not because of the lobster
I do it all for you

Chorus
Oh take the hint my darling girl
Take the hint my dear
I love you more than lobster
It's the reason I am here
Oh take the hint my darling girl
Take the hint my dear

(v2)
At the start of the fishing season
You sat on the wharf all day
Salting up herring
To put in the traps
You stole my heart away
I was just a raw flat-lander
But knew I'd want to stay

(v3)
You asked if I would go with you
To give the crew a hand
You taught me
To unload the traps
To man the winch, to band
I learned more in that day at sea
Than I'd ever done on land

Pre-chorus
I arise at 5 in the morning
To go lobster hauling, it's true
But not because of the lobster
I do it all for you

Chorus
Oh take the hint my darling girl
Take the hint my dear
I love you more than lobster
It's the reason I am here
Oh take the hint my darling girl
Take the hint my dear

Bridge
What a busy week on the water
The fishing's been good for sure
We had a fine catch and the price we fetch
Might last a month or more
Oh you love the work, you live for the haul
But I really wish it's my heart you'd trawl

Pre-chorus
I arise at 5 in the morning
To go lobster hauling, it's true
But not because of the lobster
I do it all for you

Chorus
Oh take the hint my darling girl
Take the hint my dear
I love you more than lobster
It's the reason I am here
Oh take the hint my darling girl
Take the hint my dear

This is great.  It is definitely worthy of our Piratefest.  It is a sea-faring song and it even has Lobster in it, thats what I like.  This is fantastic lyrics Donna, very good song.

Dance as if no one were watching.
Sing as if no one were listening.
And live every day as if it were your last.

Very nice, as always, Donna. You can't do anything wrong with Billy in your team! :)

I hear female vocals in the chorus. Who is that? That's not you, is it?

The song has a nice Irish feel.

Just love the sentiment here.
Great piece of writing: I arise at 5 in the morning
To go lobster hauling, it's true
But not because of the lobster
I do it all for you

Fantastic song Donna !!! Great lyrics and great music.

Could you elaborate on who's playing and singing here? Is the female voice you?

Bluesberry, Ted, Steffen, Nelson, and Geir, thanks so much for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Whenever I listen to the song, I always have to laugh. That can't be a bad thing.  ;)

Steffen,  that's Billy doing all the vocals, including chorus backups. As you know, he can hit some pretty high notes.  ;) (Unless his wife Irene is somewhere in the mix.  :D )

Geir, Billy did everything relating to the music/vocals.

I love it!  :)

That really sounds like a woman's voice doing the backing vox, though - if Billy can pull that off as well as the male voices, he's got astoundingly versatile vocal cords. In fact, I bet this would work as a man & woman call & response type of duet, a la Shane MacGowan & Kirsty MacColl.
