Ripples (jazzy ballad)

Here is another one. This is the plain mix without mastering.

The timing is a little bit off here and there, but I think this actually supports the bar room atmosphere that I wanted to create.

Again the quality of the seps was not the best, but I'm quite satisfied with the result. It's pretty much what the lyricist and I wanted it to be. :)

Vocals: James Ryce
Lyrics: Paul Dempsey
Bass & Drums: Neal Vanderhoof
Guitar: Andrew Doherty
Composed, arranged & mixed by Steffen Offermann

Sceneries changing
Yet I feel I've seen it all
Every minute detail
Somehow I recall

Years folded on years
Every one quite unique
They're full of stories
If you listen they speak

So many stones in a pond
   The ripples move on
   Each one traveling
   A little farther beyond
   Now my memories respond
They're as sharp as a knife
   Each one recounting
   The ripples of my life

Time seems extended
Like circles that expand
A perfect orchestration
Just like it was planned

Love, like a warm breeze
Maintained the serene
Stillness below the surface
A strength unseen

So many stones in a pond
   The ripples move on
   Each one traveling
   A little farther beyond
   Now my memories respond
There as sharp as a knife
   Each one recounting
   The ripples of my life

Every stone had an impact
My loved ones felt the wake
And I tried very hard
To leave more than I could take

If I'm very lucky
Some ripples will continue on
When my loved ones cast stones
Into their own pond ...

So many stones in a pond
   And the ripples move on
   Each one traveling
   A little farther beyond
   And their memories respond
Like the blade of a knife
   Each one recounting
   The ripples of their life

Thanks, guys, your nice comments are much appreciated!

Quoteman, you are pro all the way.  I think we are going to learn some mixing tips from you.
LOL, I'm everything, but not pro. ;)

As for mixing tips: I'd be happy to help whenever I can (and hope to get honest feedback and constructive criticism myself from everybody).

However, I've just made a very bad and shocking experience and won't be commenting on any songs here again unless I'm asked to.

I love the mix and how every instrument complements each other.  Piano playing is especially cool.  Would love to learn how to get that balance in the mix that makes each part stand out.
Are you recording each musician yourself or are they providing files that you are mixing together?  I for one appreciate your compositions and your helpful critiques.
"Play because you love it. Don't worry about if it will ever make any money, just understand that playing is an end in itself, and you play music, it will make your life better. And, don't worry about being a star, don't worry about making money, worry about nothing, just sit down with your guitar and let it speak to you and that will make your life better. It will bring beauty into your life. It's a great thing to do."     ---- David Crosby

This is really nice, Steffen.  ;)  James did a great job with the vocals as well. (Seemed strange at first to hear him singing outside of the country genre.  :D )

I wonder if you could add the lyrics to your initial post? As a "words" person, I always find it helpful to see the text. It gives me a more complete "feel" for a song as a whole. Thanks.  :)

Honour the earth. Without it, we'd be nowhere.

Life is too important to take seriously.
