this song is so funny... you seem to have had a good time together. You are just creative lunatics, turning everything into gold.

(Hence I wont complain about you guys making the word "France " rime with "arse"... )

;D

Actually, I think France rhymes with Penzance. Oldrottenhead was just a bit inconsistent with which lines he rhymed. In most verses, he rhymes line 1 with line 2 and line 3 with line 4. But in the first verse, he seems to have rhymed line 1 with line 3 and line 2 with line 4 instead. Verse 3 doesn't seem to rhyme at all, and one or two other verses have questionable rhyming.

But that's perfectly okay, of course. Lyrics do not have to rhyme. I've always been very impressed with the song "We" by The Roches from their first album. It's a really great song even though the words don't rhyme at all.

I prefer the studio version from their first album to this live video, but you'll get the idea:

Lyrics:

We
(Words & Music by Maggie,Terre & Suzzy Roche)

We are Maggie and Terre and Suzzy
Maggie and Terre and Suzzy Roche
we don't give out our ages
and we don't give out our phone numbers
give out our phone numbers
sometimes our voices give out
but not our ages and our phone numbers

Guess which two of us made a record
guess what the other one did instead
the two who made the record
have been a singing group for ten years
singing group for ten years
and now a trio we are
born on the fourth of December

We come from deepest New Jersey
but now we live in New York City
we better get outa there
before the shit hits the fan
shit hits the fan
you might say where have they played
all over the country and in England

Who have we worked with
do we know anybody famous
anybody famous
do we know anybody famous
anybody famous
and as a point of interest
we spell our last name R-O-C-H-E

We are Maggie and Terre and Suzzy
we spell our last name R-O-C-H-E

IMO there are no rules. There is alot of famous poetry that doesn't rhyme either.

It's all about message and delivery.

Of course there are rules! The rules should be ignored when they get it in the way. And they should be observed only by accident.
