Hello all.  After the positive response I got to "Lucy", I decided to offer this one up for consumption.  This song was "born" whilst I was buying red wine in Tesco on Wednesday this week.  I had the chorus of a song going round my head, when this crept in.  I had to get outside quick and sing the first verse into my phone to remember it.  Then it was home and I wrote it quite quickly after that.  The guitars were recorded that night, whilst drinking the red, vocals and harmonica the day after.  Mixed this morning Friday all on my Zoom MRS8.

A big departure from my Beatles cover, but probably more my "sound" I guess.  Words below.  Thanks in advance for listening.

Stevie was a dealer worked on the street
doing what he could to make ends meet
Girlfriend was pregnant, another mouth to feed
Skimmed a little off the top, to buy what she need

Doogie was a dope fiend always looking to score
Eyes sunk in his head his arms were raw
Saw what Stevie was doing saw his chance
Went to tell Big Bobby  victim of circumstance

Bobby was the Big man had been for so long
No one questioned him right or wrong
Held court in the club back of Wilson Street
That was where Doogie came for a meet

Doogie told his story stroked his chin
One false move could of meant the end of him
Big Bobby sat there shaking his head
Gave Doogie a bag for thank him for what he'd  said

Hector was a hard man never known to fail
Half of his life spent in jail
Big Bobby just looked at him didn't need to say a word
Hector left the club whistling like a freed bird

Six weeks later Stevies body was found
His son was born as he was being put in the ground
Doogie was found in a basement needle in his leg
Big Bobby turned to Hector business as usual he said

I like this very much, musicmadmac...a gritty urban topic, and a very well-told story. I'm going to give it another listen later.

What a song....loving those chords and that second verse when the kick drum comes in,

Your vocal is smooth as hell (love the whoooo's) and the story telling lyrics are superb.

I can hear some Dylan in this too, and I like your "sound" a lot.

Great post!
