This is my favourite Beatles song. I don't have the brass section to do a faithful reproduction, so I did it acoustically. It's quite raw and simple, but it was a very satisfying one to play. I didn't think it would work like this, but yet again, the songwriting genius of Macca comes through anything you care to throw at it. Without brass, the title refrain doesn't work acoustically, so had to be adapted. Hope you forgive this little bit of tinkering.

Just me with my Tanglewood and the MBR late last night  :)

p.s. those high notes are a right f*cker!

you don't say ??! ?!?!  ;D

I was contemplating doing a version of this one too, but haven't dared yet. You haven't made it any easier !

Great version Tim. Love how you did the refrain, works really well !

A great tune and a great artist to perform it, what more can one ask !??

Oh well ........

I really like the interpretation here.  When you hit the word "Suddenly" in the first first (and subsequent verses), I think you go to minor chord. Don't know what the original does specifically, but that part is really effective for me.

Voice seems a little low in spots (chorus springs to mind), but that's a little niggle in a tune I will come back to often.

Thanks Blooby!

The 'Suddenly' part starts on Bm, then immediately shifts to some kind of Bm variation. I didn't know the exact chord that was in my Beatles songbook (alongs with hundreds of other odd ones they used...), so instinctively felt around for the one I ended up using. It sounded really nice. I think it's quite close to the original change, but is more prominent on a sparse acoustic arrangement. Thanks for noticing though - that change was the bit I really loved!

I think you may be right! And it's long overdue for me to take a trip to North London for an open mic. Will be in touch...

Cheers!

Yes, you did it, you own this interpretation.  Mellow, like the subject matter.  I alway got a kick out of Macca admitting that this song was written about his love of smoking pot, it really gives the lyics a different feel when you realize this isn't a love song for a woman but a love song for mary-jane.  Your version feels spot on for that sentiment, if I didn't know better I'd almost believe that you did up a big puff before recording this, it is so in the zone of mellow wonder.  Beautiful.  You need to keep playing this one live, its yours now to play.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

A very mellow version of a great song.  Worked very well, I imagine that if Noel Gallagher attempted this one, he would do a version not too far from the one you did (please take that as a compliment, I know the Gallaghers split opinion)

Loved the guitar work, I have a bottle of wine with my name on it tonight, and this will be on the playlist.

Cheers

Paul would give you the thumbs up Tim, nicely done.

Wowie Tim, you have actually managed to turn this Macca plum from 'Revolver' into a Greeny song!

Highly original interpretation, and you really have stamped your style into it.

Deep respect,
cuth

p.s. Long live the BeatlesFest!  :D
