So, how does one go about getting a free card from Roland / Boss?

Thanks

Roland branches of various countries (US, UK, Canada, etc.) often have promotions for certain products. These promotions are not worldwide - they apply only to certain products purchased and registered in the country of the promotion within the dates specified. Roland Canada was offering a free 1GB memory card to anyone who purchased and registered a Micro BR or BR-600 in Canada from December 1, 2007 to October 1, 2008. I believe Roland UK also had a similar offer for a while but it ended quite some time ago. As far as I know, there are no current promotions for the Micro BR from Roland Canada or Roland UK. However, there are current promotions in other countries:

Roland US is offering a free accessory kit to anyone who purchases a Micro BR in the USA between October 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008. They don't give any details on the kit but, judging from the photo, it looks like their BA-PC15 Earphones/Guitar Cable Set which doesn't include a memory card.

If you purchased a Micro BR in Germany or Austria since June 1, 2008, you can get a free BA-MBR-S Silicone Rubber Case for it (while supplies last).

Other countries may also have current promotions. To see what's being offered in your country, select it from the home page of the Roland Worldwide website.

Damn,
I'm in Toronto, and bought the Micro BR on October *2*, 2008.

Still, your post has alerted me to check manufacturers' websites and ask music stores for information about promotions of this nature, so thanks for that.

I got the free, plastic case with mine that leaves the Micro BR's physical inputs open to the air, dust and so on. You'd think that they could have at least supplied a soft case with a 'fold over' flap with a press-stud which would have protected it from these elements (never mind having 'sacrificed' some of the elaborate cardboard packaging to provide a lined, hard case).

It shouldn't have been hard for them to offer some cheap protection. I made my own from an old Sega Mega Drive game case, but a hard-shell box of some sorts should be on their minds for the next release / version.

Didn't you get the nice velvety black slip case with Boss written on it in big shiny letters?

I did. The BR goes in that, then inside the Sega box!

I find the biggest limitation with my MBR is that i cant properly record drums with them; i mean having individual tracks for the kick, snare, and overheads. Obviously, this little magic box wasnt designed for doing that but it would be cool if there was a way around it besides room mic'ing the drums onto 1 track.

I wonder if there is a way to connect a multi-channel mic-pre into the MBR that will at least let me record 4 tracks for the drums. I dont suppose so as you cant record on more than 2 tracks at a time (one being the built in mic)

Oh well. Now that i'm getting my feet wet with recording, i'll need to step up and get at least an 8 track firewire interface or DAW console/interface. Not cheap, but I suppose the painful journey thru the world of recording has to start somewhere. The MBR has me hooked.
