Any ideas how I might test my OVER light?

Id considered trying the other inputs but then figured either way, that doesnt help me record my guitar any better, if its not showing up on the guitar input side.
But, eh, I reckon I'll know if the light comes on or not...or maybe itll knock somethin loose and itll start working on the guitar input side again  :D

Assuming you have a pickup with a half way strong output it should be easy to overdrive the input. Try putting a pedal between to boost the gain. Try the mike to check that it does come on at all.

The track sounded good while I was playing along, but after I recorded it it sounded too loud and clipped.

Are you saying that the "OVER" indicator never lights? Or are you saying that it lights, but when you reduce the input sensitivity so that it doesn't light, you still get distortion?

Okay well I tested the over indicator as SteveG suggested, just using the onboard mic...and it works! Lit right up as it should.
But just as it did I realized what it was...too much bass.
I was using a new patch(RedHouse) that had more bass than mids or treble(but then I changed amp models to "MS" with the same tone stack settings)...Ive always favored much less treble than the OEM patches use, as I find the too much treble(on the MBR) sound to sound like guitar action set too low, but I know its overdriving the treble frequency, only, too much.
This issue is very similar to that, only with the bass side of things this time.
I normally dig a bass or mid driven tone...but this "really gets away from you" when you record it, and its not overly obvious when just playing along with a backing track or in MP3 mode.
So Ive concluded that its not so loud as to show the "OVER" light...but certain bands of the EQ, if pushed too far, will still show signs of clipping without ever showing with the idiot light.

I call that "deceptive"..but I dunno if it has much to do with the original posters issue, but its gotta help somebody.
