Can I hook the BR directly to my stereo system?

Wondering if I can hook the BR directly to my stereo system amp / tuner and what is required?

Has anyone tried this and what kind of adapter did you use (1/8" to stereo adapter?)

Figured I could use my stereo system for playback?

Thanks

Stereo mini plug into the headphone jack on the BR and either RCA or stereo mini into the stereo.  My guess is that the amp takes RCA in.  You can get the cables at Radio Shack or other electronics store.

Just one thing to add to the previous poster.

To get the most flexibility out of the accessories you need to accomplish the above, I would buy a regular RCA cable (if your amp does take RCA's, which it probably does), and a 'Y' shaped connector, i.e. the connector will have two female sockets (for each of the RCA's and will have a male stereo 1/8" 'prong' to go into the output of the Boss Micro BR.

The reason I'm suggesting that you go this route rather than buying a cable which has RCA's soldered to one end and an 1/8" 'prong' to the other is that you can take the RCA to 1/8" adapter off and use the RCA as a regular cable when and if you need to.

Just watch your speakers.

You're recording uncompressed mostly on the MBR and the stuff your stereo normally plays is quite compressed and limited.

Thanks for the info.

I'll make a run for some adapters and let y'all know how it works out.

Great. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

By the way, flashharry, I just hooked my Micro BR up to my stereo a couple of hours ago, and it was fine. I didn't find that there were any spikes or or that the output from the Micro BR was particularly loud at all.

It's not the volume that does it, it's the transients. The difference between the normal bits and the time you catch a string or the echo pops. It just needs watching.

Update:

Picked up some adapters yesterday;

* 1/4 - 1/8 for my old Tascam head phones and line out to amp.
* 1/8 - RCA jacks, tried to locate just a pigtail but ended up buying  a 7' cord from a big box store.
* Also purchased a DVD case which now houses all but the headphones ($15 @ RS)
* SD cards !!, no luck finding any 1G, so I guess I'll order a couple of the Lexars online?

Stereo hook up works and sounds great!

I may break down and buy a new set of headphones, but the Tascams sound okay for now.

Thus far I'm pretty impressed with what this little unit is capable of. I layed down one song with rhythm and lead and it exceeded my expectations. Yes it's a quirky little unit and not as "user friendly" as I would like, but pretty good bang for the buck imo.

Topsail and Flashharry,
Thanks for the replies.

Flashharry, is there anything like putting a compressor between the Micro BR and the Hi Fi which would address the problem you mentioned?

Flash Harry

There is no reason that you couldn't put a compressor after the MBR before the HiFi, choose your compressor well and set it up as a limiter. It should then just crush the transients and stop your amp clipping and mashing up your speakers.
