Anyone feel inclined to take this blues lyric and make a smokin' song out of it? Below is a rough Audacity file with a sample vocal melody (a cappella). (Please be kind in your thoughts. I'm no singer!  ;D) The song calls for male vocals.

The recording is 2 minutes long, but allowing for an instrumental break, plus, say, a 15-20 second intro, and music between the sections, the number could finish at a little over the 3:00 mark. (Or if necessary, repeat the refrain.)

Please feel free to improvise on the melody.  ;) My vocal range doesn't let me hit the kinds of notes I'd like to (either high or low). Main thing is that the melody is – well – melodious, and there's a nice changeup from the verse to the refrain.  ;)

Likewise with the instrumental break: If you feel it'd be better placed elsewhere, go for it.

The tempo can be changed as well.

I'd better stop rambling before I lose my courage.  :P ::)

UPDATE: Ken Damkier in Denmark has taken this one on. Hope to get a demo up soon.

Soon It's Gonna Rain Hard Blues    (New version, with bridge and different hook/title)

(v1)
You brought the sunshine with you, baby
Chased those dark clouds away
You brought the sunshine with you, baby
Chased those dark clouds away
Kept your arms around me
Gave me good lovin' every day

Refrain
But somethin's goin' on now, darlin'
Your eyes don't shine like they used to do
Yeah somethin's goin' on now, darlin'
Those eyes don't shine like they used to do
It's a feelin' [down] deep in my bones
I've got the soon it's gonna rain hard blues

(v2)
You fried my bacon every mornin'
Gave me jelly roll every noon
Yeah, you fried my bacon every mornin'
Gave me jelly roll every noon
An' what you brought me in the evenin'
Didn't no-one see but the moon

Refrain
But somethin's goin' on now, darlin'
Your eyes don't shine like they used to do
Yeah somethin's goin' on now, darlin'
Those eyes don't shine like they used to do
It's a feelin' [down] deep in my bones
I've got the soon it's gonna rain hard blues

Instrumental

Bridge
Wish I knew what happened, [baby]
Why you changed that weather chart
You stole your sunshine from me, girl
Left a storm cloud in my heart

Refrain
Oh, somethin's goin' on now, darlin'
Your eyes don't shine like they used to do
Yeah, somethin's goin' on now, darlin'
Those eyes don't shine like they used to do
It's a feelin' [down] deep in my bones
I've got the soon it's gonna rain hard blues

Repeat refrain (as necessary)

Nothin' but blue skies every day
Always had your arms around me
Whispered sweet nothin's every which way

You fried my bacon every mornin'
Gave me jelly roll every noon
You fried my bacon every mornin'
Gave me jelly roll every noon
An' what you brought me in the evenin'
Didn't nobody see but the moon

Refrain
But your eyes don't shine no more
Somethin's happened, somethin's changed
Your eyes don't shine no more
Somethin's happened, somethin's changed
I got a feelin' in my bones
I'm goin' home to the rain

Instrumental break

(v3)
Wish I knew what happened, darlin'

Wish I knew what happened, darlin'
To make you flip that weather chart
You stole your sunshine from me, girl

'Cause your eyes don't shine no more
Somethin's happened, somethin's changed
Your eyes don't shine no more
Somethin's happened, somethin's changed
I got a feelin' in my bones

Honour the earth. Without it, we'd be nowhere.

Life is too important to take seriously.

Donna, I do beg to disagree with you - you have a really good voice! Your phrasing and use of vibrato sound very accomplished, and you hit all the right notes!

I like your lyrics and the structure you've made. Blues isn't really my preferred genre, but I might play around with this a bit when I get some free time (I've got another Beatlesfest entry I'm currently working on).

You may find that more than one person takes a crack at this!

cheers,

FuzzFace

I just came across this.

I could listen to a whole collection of a capella recordings like this.

It's a pleasure to hear.

Everybodies downloding, I wonder who's going to join in first.

PS Who is that shouting in the end?  ;D
hou hou ha ha

drumbum

Sounds like a 3/4 thing may i provide a drum track for this nice tune?
If you swim against the tide long enough, it turns and becomes momentum.........

FuzzFace, what a kind comment.  :)

Daniel and drumbum, thanks for giving this a listen/look. ;)

And DB, by all means, do lay down a track.

Again, thanks.    :)

drumbum, I've put up a revised version of the lyrics. Take your pick.  ;)

Hoping others will join drumbum on this as well when it gets into the Collaborators section.  ;)

UPDATE: Meanwhile, a guy in Denmark is working on this one (I've also revised the lyrics a bit). Cuthbert, you were right when you said a few people might take a crack at it.  ;)
