Great version. I've always liked this song from my favorite Beatles album. Like how you do the vocals. Very cool  :)

Thanks gents for all of the supportive comments! They are very much appreciated.  :)

'Think for Yourself' is a bit psychedelic I guess...never really thought about that angle before! That's the style that most appeals to me though, and I've always liked this George song since I first heard it. The boys were smoking a bit of the ganj at the time... :D

This really was loads of fun to do. For the hand percussion, I just tried to play them like Ringo did...but I'm sure he had a lot less trouble doing those fast maraca shakes than I did!  :D Vocals were double-tracked, both lead and harmony, and wide panned. I haven't mastered the automatic double tracking trick yet.  ;) Everything else was single-track recorded. And it was easier to finish relatively quickly by final-mixing the tracks in Audition.

Cool! Geddy Lee's bass.  8)

What year is yours? Is it black?

Thanks, 64G. I bought it about 10 years ago - I don't remember its exact year now, but I believe it's a 1978 model? Its color is Autumnglo. Looks like this:

Mine is like the one on the left - it's got the cream-colored binding around it. I love the piano-like tone on this baby!  :)

As for the Wurlitzer Swingin' Rhythm, yup - 64G posted a pic, video, and even an emulated version!  :o of it - looks and sounds just like mine.

I think these things were made for use with those dreaded home organs from the Sixties and Seventies, before they started building the rhythms into them. Smells of old ciggy smoke, but it's vintage and analog (and mono) and I got it for cheap. ;D

It's dead simple to use: you adjust the tempo by turning the Tempo knob, and you can mix up different rhythm styles by pressing two or more buttons at once. The black keys under the style buttons allow you to trigger different 'drum' sounds individually, which is a nice feature I didn't use on this song. It's all very cheesy and limited, but I do love the 'Teen' beat on it (and will probably be using it again).

Oh, and Geir...we'll see what goes on for the remaining songs on Rubber Soul. I'd love to see this album completed. Well, all of them really! I love the Beatlesfest...  :)

That's a really nice colour!  I like it better than the traditional yellow/orange sunbursts you typically see on guitars.

You can find out when it was made here:

It could be worth a couple thousand or more:

Hang onto it and it will appreciate a lot more over the years. Just make sure your family knows what it's worth. Otherwise, they might sell it in a garage sale for $5 after you pop your clogs. :o

Brilliant cover Cuth, love that bass heavy lo-fi feel. The vox are great as well. Very imaginative use of that old rhythm machine, it just adds ot the overall fab feel.

Cheers,

In the spirit of keeping the Beatlesfest alive...  :)

Last week I asked drumbum if he would add some drums to 'Think For Yourself', and he graciously agreed and then sent me a completed drum track back a few days later - and I am psyched!  8)  I've never had a live drummer play on any of my recordings, and it was a real treat to hear them played so well. It sounds good and proper Ringo to me...great job, db!

Also, I recently got set of Samson MediaONE monitor speakers and listened to my previous mix with the rhythm machine and determined it was a little too bassy, so decided to I take the opportunity to do a full remix with drumbum's drums added plus a little more 'air', which I think makes a more balanced sound overall.

Thanks again, drumbum...yer the best!  8)

I hope you enjoy and thanks for listening,
cuth
