I've had this riff in my head for a very long time, I finally took some time to hash out the words and recorded it last week.
Aug 27, 1990 was when Stevie Ray Vaughan passed away. I still have the newspaper clippings.

He was a big influence on my music, but more importantly on my life. He overcame his demons, and was just a a tremendous guitar player, and from what I have read - a very generous and humble person as well.

I tried to make the first lead in this song in his style. I wish I had 1/100th of his talent.
I really wish he was still here making music.

Drowning in my Tears
  • Guitars: MIJ Strat into a Fender Bandmaster mic'd with an SM57 straight into the BR600 using mic effect P01
  • Bass: Washburn Taurus straight into BR600 with P62 "Clean Tubes" effect
  • Drums: BR600 (arrangements made with Boss BR Rhythm Editor)
  • Mic: SM58 stright into BR600 with mic effect P01

I was inspired by my friend Tharek, and I decided to make a video tribute as well.

It ain't pretty being easy.

Sheer beauty, you have even outdone yourself here Vann (and thats a tall order).  Blues rock soul from your head to the souls of your feet.  That strat sounds bloody good.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Let's just ignore this statement because this totally kicks and there is massive talent here all over this song.

Holy Crap Vann!...

SRV is definitely looking down on you in awe and glad he influenced you.

You nailed the emotion and everything you wrote this song about and the meaning of it.

SRV is one of my favs too. Live at the El Macombo is one of my favourite LIVE videos ever recorded.
Produced by Moses Znaimer of all people but he did a good job. And going to that bar many times made me feel good that i stepped into a house of rock. I also remember the day he died and was very sad.
Its been 20 years already?? Damn!!

This is an incredible Tribute Vann and i`m pleased to know your music :)

Talk about a double whammy - I'm still recovering from how good your 'kicking horse' song is! This is incredible on every level. And that guitar work is absolutely smoking. One of the best things we've had on here IMO. I think SRV would be smiling if he heard it. It's one thing paying tribute to him, but quite another to take his influence and turn it into something this incredible. I've run out of superlatives, so I'll just listen again very happily, lol.

You never stop to amaze me VannCad!!

Fantastic song. You've nailed the style of SRV, and still it's unmistakably your own style.

Every piece of this song is perfectly executed and the result is just superb !!!

I'm still a fan !!!
