Cricket Song
Written and performed by Dave and Keith Berry
Recorded on MicroBR
Instruments : Cricket, Epi Sheraton, Acoustic guitar, bass, SH-201 synth

Well, my son and I were sitting around the backyard last night.  A nice fire going, I was playing my acoustic, and we heard this crazy cricket chirping away very close to us.  My son asked if I could record him with my "machine".  Out came the microBR, recorded the cricket.  Listening to it my son come up with a little verse about a cricket on his head, microBR was still warmed up so I recorded him singing, then I recorded some nice acoustic to accompany his singing, all done outside.  You can hear the fire crackling from time to time in the background.  I felt inspired by this casual random recording so I moved it inside later on in the night and fueled by some red ale I added some synth and a middle section (my son said make it like The Who, Flaming Lips and Rush, three of his favorite bands, that was his instructions for my middle section, I did what I could  :D).  Tonight I did the bass and vocals and it is done.  This was a lot of fun and it was great to get my son involved.  He did real good on the singing I thought (he is 8 this summer).

This is so special, and i can just feel the warmth from the fire
as I sit here listening...This was one of those spur of the moment/
unplanned things....You know I believe that some of the very best
songs are created in this very way!

I would love to get a cricket effect- they should make one!
Great father- son bonding going on here, glad to see he is willing to share in making music with Dad, and he did a fine job.
I hear a little Rush in there, synth sounds, and the song has a nice warm feel to it.

Fantastic Dave, I'll be back on this one for repeat listens. I really enjoyed the fact that this was a father son collab. Tharek's right I really dig the grit in your voice. You should do more of this type.

Great story behind this one Dave. Probably a night your son will remember for a long time because now it's immortalized thanks to your efforts. Hats off to you both on a job well done and to 21st century technology that made it all possible. And to the cricket too!  ;D

It's a Berry Delight!

Well done, both of you! I love these family recordings. Maybe for the next one, you could ask Uncle Chuck to join in.  ;)
