Here's one of my faves from my absolute favorite Beatles album, 'Revolver'.

I had one heck of a time doing this with the Micro BR drums, which are only 4/4 time...at the end of the chorus, I'd be off the beat!  ???  I looked into Hydrogen, played around with it a bit and then soon realized that although most of the song is 4/4, the chorus is actually 2/4, which is what was causing my version to go off the beat. So I did my lame best Ringo impression using Hydrogen...   ;D

Apparently the lyrics were inspired by an acid trip shared by John Lennon, George Harrison, and Peter Fonda in Los Angeles back in 1966. At one point during his trip, George thought he might be dying and Fonda, who neither Beatle knew at the time, kept coming over and saying  'I know what it's like to be dead', which began to irritate the lads, causing John to eventually reply 'You're making me feel like I've never been born!'

When Revolver turned out to need one more song to fill it out, this is the one they added. Rumor has it that George played bass on it because Macca was pissed about something or other at the time.  :D

Thanks for listening,
cuth

Oh, yeah - I love this song and I know the story behind it. Brilliant job on this!

I love that sitar, bro - Perfectly done. And the vocals have a haunting quality to them that goes great with the song.

Very cool!

Great one Cuth, so very good.  What the heck is a "Jerry Jones baby sitar" post a pic of it.  You vocal is so dream-like,  you are reminding me of Henwrench for some reason.  I could go on with words and phrases, verbs, adjectives, but really it all would say the same thing, flipping heck did you ever hit it out of the park on this one!!!!!!!  Its got the spook.

You've created a great sound here (hear?).  Well done, sir.

Thanks for the post and the history lesson. ;D

Nice job, cuthbert! That sitar is pretty cool. Like Bluesberry, I'd never heard of a "Jerry Jones baby sitar" before, so I looked it up. Here's the manufacturer's web page:

A "junior version of the Coral sitar". Looks pretty cool.  8)

Nice job on the drum programming. I've played around with Hydrogen just to see how it works but haven't used it in a recording yet. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to do that for the BeatlesFest.

Ha, I just downloaded it - Cuth, you may have just started a Hydrogen Revolution! And for those that don't speak Linux, the Windows Installer seems to work ok. It seems easy to use, so I'm happy so far.

Thanks Blooby, Mark, Rolow, Dave, and 64G! I really appreciate your opinions.

Dave, here's a pic of the baby sitar (not mine, but the same style and color):

It's really just an electric guitar with a buzzy bridge. Take note of the length of the bridge under each string - gives it a nice whirry sound, and it actually has pretty good intonation! Not a very versatile guitar for sure, but when you want that sitar sound, it brings the goods.  :)

Thanks 64G for the Hydrogen tip...can't remember when I read your post about it here, but I remembered it when I got stuck on this song. Turns out it's a fairly intuitive drum programmer - pattern based, with flexible time signatures, plus you can add variations to velocity, timing, etc. Pretty sweet program!
