This has been a real labor of love. When it was clear that the BeatlesFest was happening I PM'ed Vann and Rob asking if they were interested in covering "Nowhere Man".  As I hoped they were both enthusiastic about the song.

Vann is a master of the BR600 drums and I'm so glad he agreed to do them, this one would NOT have been easy to pull off with the MBR !! Not only that, he laid down the basic track: guitars, vocals and lala's !!

Being Rob's first collab, he had a tough job, learning all the technicalities with wave-file exchange,  import/export and such, but he is a fast learner!!!! When I got the files they where perfect. Not only that they where in sync (that's a common begginer error not exporting from 1st measure, I've been there and done that :) ), but his contribution was just stunning!!! Vocals as beautiful as they get and a tight acoustic guitar along with them.

I had the pleasure of putting it all together. We all sang one lead track each, one harmony and one "lala"-track. I had the idea, that we should all sing the lead, but that we should have one verse each, where one had the "main lead" and the two others doubling lower in the mix. Well, being the stubborn a$$ I am I, also wanted to do it all on the little shining brick. I found another error in the MBR software in that process. I had to mix that mainvocal stereo-track in six parts (bugger, just found out I could have gotten away with four). Adjusting the individual level and panning for each part.
The last challenge was the bass! I mean WTF was he thinking!?!?!?!? I listened, I found some tabs on the net ... I tried ... I .... ... I had no idea what to do. I had the rest ready mixed, and ... well I just went for it this morning. Did three takes in a row and decided .. I couldn't do better if I tried for weeks. So this is it.

Hope I haven't forgotten anything ...

A BIG THANK YOU to Vann & Rob, two brilliant musicians and singers!!

So well done...amazing job on the harmonies guys...one of my all time favorite Beatles tunes and you guys nailed it!

What a brilliant collab, fellas - excellent programming, sterling performances, and crystal clear recording!

I hear you about the BR drums. I tried doing my as-yet-undisclosed effort  :) with the MBR drum patterns only, but I found out that the time signature wasn't 4/4 all the way through. Grrr. So I did my drums in Hydrogen for the first time, which is actually a pretty cool program that I will use again.

Loved this! Excellent work and I'm downloading this right away.

That's truly awesome!  You've got the "John", "Paul", and "George" vocal parts going very nicely.  I prefer to interpret the song as if they had let Ringo sing and play guitar, Pete Best on bass, and John programming the MBR drums:

(looking up Bass tab . . . man you are hard core!  All I am capable of at present is using my tuner to find the root notes and then hunt-and-peck them)

Oh my God... this is stellar. Right from the opening harmonies I knew that you'd nailed it perfectly. So very perfectly. It's as if the Beatles were still around and had re-recorded it! I should have expected it given the individual talents involved, but it's given me that shiver of awe and wonder that you get when you hear an amazing piece of music. Every part is done with grace, skill and beauty. Absolutely outstanding work, guys. A labour of love that was worth every second of effort...

Awesome! I totally agree, the bassline is fantastic. When I was 18 and was starting to play bass, I wanted to make a cover of this song driven by the bass line. Unfortunately... I came to realize it was really complex!

Cheers,

Fantastic!  It's your own version but certainly done in the Beatles tradition.  Love the drum programming, the electric rhythm guitar and of course the vocals in harmony.  Three good singers you've got going here. Congratulations on a fine collab!   :)

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Top song of the fest so far and may not be topped.  Sheesh guys, brilliant.  Feels like you soared into the heavens to record this one.  Geir, that bass line is a monster, I was trying to learn it the other day, shewowie you nailed it,  its a hard one.  Vann, how did you get such ringing tone on that rhythm guitar, it sounds like a bloody bell.  FM, brilliant singing, its so good to hear you three guys sing together. Congrats.  I can say enough about the brilliance,  this one will live long, we will be listening and talking about this one for a very long time.  Take your bow guys, you are officially the festival top dogs (or is that festival queen?, festival kings, yea thats better), put your crowns and gold ribbons on fellas and wear them with pride today. You must do another one together now, you guys were made for each other.
