Hi to all,

This is my last minute run for the current festival. It is sad to note that I started researching Zappa songs to cover (I'm a non-Zappaer myself) very early in July, and I came across with this one. My idea was to make a parody with the lyrics and the music, and make it sound like a 70's "boogie nights" soundtrack, but I completely fumbled with drum patterns, and general musical style, and July moved on impervious.

Meanwhile Zappafest was almost ending, and someone had stolen my music!... DaSilvaSings decided it was time to work... This song was recorded with the microBR (my first complete song with it - ok, I used audacity for the fadeout), and I actually had a lot of fun recording it: starring a fender jazz bass with 3 band compressor (there is still some clipping, I'll have to give some thought on the compressor/ limiter next time. Any advice is welcome), a danelectro 63 with a autowah (from a zoom zfx), and last but not least, a kurzweil digital piano, pretending it was a grown up rhodes. The vocals have a microbr guitar effect, PhaseCln.

DaSilvaSings hopes you enjoy this song safely!

Now thats a bass-line, fantastic stuff.  I love that guitar also.  Rhodes piano sounds real good.  I think the vocals sound good as they are.  Its a thing of beauty.  So glad you got one in for the fest, you have a style that I like.

I really dig the feel you got going on. The vox could be mixed in a little louder...great cover either way.

WOW Miguel !! Thanx for posting this.

Love this version !! Like Dave said, that bass is fantastic and give a great groove to the whole song. I dig the whole arrangement, and the performance and production is great. Yeah, I too would have liked to have the vocals a bit louder in the mix, but still a great cover !

Love it !

Hi!

Thank you all for your comments!

The vox issue is a pain in the neck. I usually sing in a "bassier" octave, and everytime, the vox disappears in the frequecies of other instruments. My fault this time, since I added a flanger, and there are oscilations that mask the voice even further. This issue is now in my (not-so)shortlist of things to solve.

In terms of bass... since this was about DST, I wanted it to sound like 70's porn movies soundtracks, with a big bass groove. I didn't manage to find the groove with the drums, but I let the bass roam free!

The rhodes... well, this was so far the funniest song to record. Because I didn't knew the song and I wasn't trying to follow any structure, or riff, or solo: the song was a bunch of chords, a vocal melody and some lyrics, and I really liked the freedom it gave me. I remember that in some points I was wishing I had another verse to do more soloing, which is not typical in me!

The guitar... I'm not a guitar player. I just felt that any would-be porn soundtrack had to have a wah wah somewhere.

I'm really glad you enjoyed this. I had a great time recording it!
