Satin (And Other Vices) - Song A Week 2010-29

This is another skirmish song. A title is posted and we have one hour to write and record the demo. I don't have my condenser so the vocals are through a sm58 which does *not* suit my voice at all. Other than that I'm not too unhappy with it. And I'm really enjoying rocking out a little more.

I know you're a lover
I know you're a sinner
You know that I want you
The memories still linger

I love your leather
And I love your lace
But it's a touch of satin, baby
Makes me yearn for your embrace

I see your picture
And I can smell your hair
I don't know where you went now
But I wish I was there

I love your leather
And I love your lace
But it's the touch of Satin, baby
That makes me yearn for your embrace

I know you know
That I love Your afterglow
You have the power to make me bleed
You're everything that I'll ever need

I love your leather
And I love your lace
But it's the touch of satin, baby
That makes me yearn for your embrace

The kinda of performance that I'd be having to shout over to order my beer.

Maybe not a refined sound, but better than having the life squeezed out of it by those recording geeks who want everything perfect and forget music should be fun.

Good one, I like

Quite amazing - an hour to do this?  It takes me longer than that to set up a single track recording!  Quite incredible my friend.  Leaving the timescales aside, it's a good high energy song.

As a matter of interest, when you produce a time-constrained piece like this, do you ever go back and do it again at a more leisurely pace?  I'm not suggesting you should or that the song needs it.
I'm just curious.

Almost never. BUT... I intend next year instead of writing a song a week to record a song a week. So I'll take the best songs I have and I'll start from scratch and do them right. Well as right as I can do. My intention is to have several albums worth of songs in ready or near ready condition in a year and a half.

I started using the BR900 to get the idea down. If I write a song I don't want to forget it. The demos I have are getting better but are no-where near the quality I'd like. So I'm slowly learning techniques to improve them. This one would have been a good one to try and take a muddy vocal track and make it more clear. Probably the best opportunity to learn some mixing skills. But instead I"m moving on to another song. I've written 11 songs in the month of July so far and take the best one from each week for the Song A Week post. Some weeks it is a tough decision and some a pretty easy one (either only one song or only one good song out of a few.)

The song I'm least happy with is "Believe" from week 14. I HATE the guitar part at the beginning especially. It's out of time with a sloppy distortion. It's not the worst song of the bunch but that beginning guitar part just ruins it. It would only take me a few minutes to change it and get something different but I just haven't taken the time to do so.

That's interesting.  I'm completely the reverse - I don't like having too many songs on the go at a time - can't really multi-task - and consequently forget more song ideas than I ever complete.  That and I disappear up my own arse trying to decide which string sound should I use....

Nice one TC,

I really like the rocking rhythm you have going on here.
Sung with raw emotion.
Great skirmish song, sxometimes things work better when the pressure is on.
:)
Keep up the good songwriting.

Thanks Dave. Your recent skirmish song was pretty good as well. How did you like writing a song in an hour?

I had to do a quick double take. 50/90 is kind of information overload at times. Glad I spotted you, though.

Yes, I've noticed that you have been rocking out lately, and it's a good thing!!

That chorus is killer, and the solo licks are pretty freakin' cool!

Another great song a week.
