did some messing around, hence the name, to get a feel for the interactive keyboard program that i loaded with drums to get a little more live feeling to my percussions.

nothing planned, just hit record and took what ever happened.

Hey, nice to see you back. These are cool meanderings that have a nice jazzy, ambient feel and I've had this looping while working and it's a nice mood piece. Enjoyed it.

Cheers,

Nice peaceful vibe to this, played it a couple of times.  Lots of interest in there although I don't really understand how you did it.  Liking it ...   Willie

Unintentional jazz.  Throw the notes up in the air and see where they land.  It's great fun and produces interesting ideas.

I did a guitar thing called "thru' a field of dreams".  On another website a member trying to be sarcastic described it as "It's almost like a guitar windchime that I wish the neighbor would take down or at least put somewhere where the wind won't hit it".  I took it a compliment as it was pretty much what I was trying to achieve - even if he didn't like it.  It's the kind of thing that you've got to be in the right mood for.

Needless to say I like this - and if you want to hear the similarities to my piece - try http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6770555

A nice cool piece to relax too. The biggest thing about this song is that it makes me jealous that you can do drums like that. I just *BANG BANG BANG* my head against the wall with the BR900. (Although to be fair I am getting better at it.)

Which new program are you  using?

thanks all for taking the time to listen and comment.

really, this was an aimless wander and you can hear that near the end where i tried, on the fly, to shift the octave on the bass. missed the mark on that one.

it was more my intent to do a live test drive Marcel Blum's program Soundplant 39.

http://www.soundplant.org/

T.C. - i am certainly percussion challenged and legally forbidden in several municipalities to be within 10 feet of a drum set.

so, i have landed on the drum program DrumSite.

http://www.guitar.sk/drums/drums_main.htm

while DrumSite is very realistic, easy to use and relatively inexpensive ($35 US) when i purchased it, it still has to be program.

in my quest to wrap my head around the whole concept of Jazz, it is my opinion that Jazz should be improvised and performed live. programming the percussions goes against that school of thought. that's where Marcel's program came to the aid my live Jazz dilemma. you can assign any sound to a QWERTY keyboard. i assigned the Jazz kit i built in the DrumSite program arranged it on my laptop keyboard and wahla... live drums.

or, at least as close as i can get without a big buck investment. the only drawback is that they're not velocity sensitive. but, that's not a show stopper for me.

Leigh - i listened to your "thru' a field of dreams" and i'm very impressed by this piece and the improvisational feel. especially the use of the guitar as your percussion. and, to anyone who doesn't have an open mind about Jazz. well... their loss, i say.

thanks again
