Black and Blues excerpt

[Scorpios]

Here is a track still in the works, it's actually about 9 minutes long but I am still working on guitars, planning to add keys and vocals etc.


I recorded the drums on a tascam dr-07 handheld digital recorder, imported it as a wav to SOnar and used the Sonar percussion strip for heavy compression.

8 string Bass was recorded with Amplitube 3
Guitars recorded through Amplitube Fender
Used Ozone 4 to master.

Great tune, looking forward to the finished work. I find the symbals a bit overwhelming, but apart from that the drums sound great too.

Thanks, Yeah the drums really cut straight through on the mix, I placed the tascam on a bass case against the wall that was convenient to simply reach and hit record and stop, I compressed the shit out of the drums too and spent little time with frequencies on the EQ,  I left a lot of headroom though for more layers which was the ultimate goal.

The bass, hmmm it's a really cheap Rogue bass, but I love that thing, survived a tour last year and any cheap flaws it has are really minor and easy to fix (i.e. re-soldering the battery connection for the active EQ, now I need to replace the bottom end strap post screw). It was supposed to be satin black but it's more like a dark green, I will see if I can't find a photo from the last yea's tour where it can be seen well. I don't think they make them anymore, even when I bought mine 2 years back, it was back-ordered and then they told me they stopped making them except to finish back orders and offered me a refund, but I opted to wait a few months to get it.

this is a full on bad ass groove. I'm with Geir on the cymbals though, but those are real drums recorded through a hand held recorder? I've been trying to figure out how to solve that very problem myself.
