Wow, The musicianship here is outstanding, as well as the performances and arrangement. The sax solo is really cool.

Jim blesses us with another lyrical gem. Great delivery as well..
love this verse...

How high you're up the chain
If you're down at the bottom
The words can cause you pain"

Well Done guys...

Smooth is definitely right. Both the track and the vox. I wouldn't have known it was written separate if you hadn't stated so. I like smooth. It works well for you.

Excellent stuff here. Very good arrangement which sounds incredibly professional, and Jim's vox are great, they really fit well. The remix is excellent as well, the first one was a bit middly, this one is really nice and clear with a great balance between the instruments and vox. Not really my kind of music (sorry) but this is a fantastically well done piece of music and it just oozes quality. Is that a real sax on the solo or a keyboard?

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks everybody, you all are very kind!  :)

No, first of all, nothing professional: my job in real life is family doctor (or G.P. in UK), while Roberto teaches History of Architecture at the University. BUT  :) we both have passion for music, and we know ourselves very well since a very long time, so we understand reciprocally what and how to do with our music. An I have to add that the biggest part of each track is made by Roberto himself. I add some solo parts after.

The only "professional" thing I can see in our music is the approach: I mean, even if we don't have anything to sell, and we play just for fun, the approach to EACH of our tunes is very, very serious. We (but expecially Roberto) is very critical (by a positive point of view) about the final result of each track, so it's almost impossible that you'll ear the "take 1" of a POSC tune. More likely you'll ear, as a final result, take 23, or 24, 25....Discipline and a strong sense of self-criticism are the basis of our music. ;D

Now, the funny thing with James, is that even if he has an opposite workflow (instead of us he is *immediate*, very, very quick...) he fits perfectly in something that often required several weeks to obtain the final result...absolutely great!!!

Nigel, about the sax solo: no, it's me on a Godin Freeway Synth Access (exaphonic Pickup), driving a sax patch on a Roland SonicCell. It's been...well...not so simple to improvise it and play it *well* :(, and as usual, it was NOT the first take...

Thanks again everybody!

Alfredo

P.S....I have the sensation that my English is getting worse and worse.... :-[ :-\

alfstone, it sounds like you guys work like me - I definitely subscribe to the "organic first take" approach for capturing a performance... but the actual first take never seems to capture it :D

So you rarely hear real first takes from me either. They are usually "one take" though - I get frustrated dropping-in and repairing. I'm more than happy to copy performances from one place to another in a recording, or even move them (if the overdub for verse 2 is actually far better for verse 1, for example) but the actual performances are usually nice organic things :)

SO... I sort of understand the orh approach - it is what I'm striving for myself, after all - but he seems to have a much stronger sense of "that's good enough" than I do. I'm not sure how I'd feel if he was in the control room while I was playing the part. It would either be very liberating because his "you've got it" would free me from multiple retakes, or it would be a nightmare because I could hear some missing nuance or mistake that I had to repair and he'd be going "away with yourself"! :D

Anyway, love this track, and the remix :)

andy, when i hear my stuff, i hear all the mistakes lol. and the things i want to fix, but a lot of the time i sing off the top off my head, and when i try to redo things i might sing it better but i find that some of the raw energy of the 1st take is lost somewhere down the line, that isnt always the case most of the songs ive done with hooper, he has me do take after take after take till i get it as right as i can, no pun intended but he makes me jump through hoops lol. but the way i work is probably down to lack of ability and a short attention span, once a song is done i'm onto the next one.

Nah - you're doing yourself down :D - you've got the "ears" for a good take. Most of us can do it on someone else's take, but you seem to be able to do it on your own takes.

That's what I mean about "that's good enough" - it's the trade off between the "really good feel" and the "oh @rse, I didn't do that bit like I meant to..."

When I do get brave enough to leave "mistakes" in (or have been convinced that I should by someone else in the room), I either can't hear them 6 months later, or if I can, I can tell that they weren't important after all.

What you've got might well be "lack of ability and a short attention span"... but it's a real gift!!  ;D

cheers andy, i think we are all our own worst critics. but i agree that when you get some distance from a song you can better appreciate it.
