First of all, here is a fantastic site for doing research and knowledge sharing online:

Lots of digitized books, etc. that you can access for free.

And then they have a thingy called The Wayback Machine 
(ala Rocky & Bulwinkle/ Mr. Know it All and his boy Sherman)

With The Wayback Machine you can travel back in Internet time... revisit a (archived) website that doesn't exist anymore.  Punch in the URL and off ya go.....
