Hi again

Seems I never get back to this site these days.  I'm spending so much time on you tube tutorials trying to get a better understanding of sound production using Reaper.  So much jargon...such a long way to go.   I'm considering buying the izotope idrum to try and liven up my drum patterns.  Does anyone else use this and recommend this programme or possibly another?  The track I've uploaded here is kind of where I am at the moment.   Recorded on Reaper with a Jim Deacon Tele and Alesis Micron synth.  There can be heard an annoying click at the start of every fourth bar where the bass line loops - it then gets drowned somewhat as more lines are added.  Does anyone have any advice on removing this click.    Any advice on anything is most welcome.

Also I've had to dramatically shrink the file as for some reason it wouldn't play on soundclick so I couldn't link it from there.

Thanks for listening

Excellent dreamy sound and well produced.

Cool and bucholic - Puts me in a better place!

It's easier to remove clicks before you start looping, because you would only have to normalize the click or pop once. Most likely the noise being heard is at the beginning, caused from a decaying note in a sound loop that wasn't completely trimmed to the size of the measure it is supposed to fit in.

It can also be caused by not starting and stopping the selection at 0db points. To get a good loop you have to zoom the track in really close and select/unselect exactly where a wave line intersects at 0db(The center line).

I've only used Audacity to fix this, but I'm assuming all you need to do is get into a "wave view" of the track where you can visually see the pop. Then select the section where the unwanted noise is at and erase it, or normalize it to a db level where it can't be heard.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your input.

I must admit when I first read it I thought "eh?" - I get easily flustered by jargon.  But after reading it through again I can now see what you mean and will definitely be looking into trying out your idea of isolating the unwanted audio and erasing or reducing it.

Thanks for your advice and also to Jim and Ritchie for their comments

I'm not using Reaper these days - but I seem to remember it had the facility to fade the beginning and the ends of the loop so that clicks and unwanted artifact from deleted, or overlapped parts can be disguised if not eliminated.
Guild Starfire 5, Fender Telecaster, Fender Stratocaster, K Yairi and Walden and a 12 Stagg string acoustic guitar and other music making boxes - including mandolin, bouzouki and 5 string banjo, uke and acoustic bass - a few M-Audio keyboards and a flute - all played and treated with equal love and attention - zoom ut 2 pedal and Logic Pro X

I can't hear any clicks, just beautiful looped ambience. I really like this. The overall feel is dreamy and intoxicating, with some nice touches of breakbeat. Reminds me a bit of Massive Attack, which is a very good thing in my book. The guitar is so subtle... so good.

Loved it.

speaking of the Boards of Canada, this has very much that feel to it. i can hear the click ever so slightly, but i think it works in with the genre that BoC is.

great work, Mike

Such a subtle and soothing song - very enjoyable to listen to, indeed.

I didn't hear the clicking at all.

Great stuff.
