First of all, I have to thank you!  ;D

Yes, it was long time I had the wish to make a cover of this great tune by FZ, and with this ZappaFest you gave me the opportunity, a reason to make it. So, thank you!

Of course, a very different track from the "usual" and most known repertoire of Zappa, but after all, this is more "my cup of tea"; and apart from that, I think that there's something for everyone inside Zappa's music. In fact, I think that "Blessed relief" is one of the most beautiful jazz compositions in modern times.

So, this is my hommage to Frank, whose father's family came from Partinico, just 30 km away from the place where I live... :)

I've made the backing tracks and the soprano solo sax using Band-in-a-Box realtracks.
The guitar is a Godin ACS SA through the Roland VG-99. The brass melody line is again the Godin, this time via the Roland GR-30. Everything recorded with the Boss BR-600.

Mix using Izotope Alloy for the single tracks, then Adobe Audition 3, and finally T-Racks 2.0 to *spice up* a little the final mix.

I hope you like it...  :)

Dear Geir, since these words come from a Zappa-list (Zappa specialist) like you, they mean double to me!  :)

Thank you!

jings crivvens and help ma boab translates roughly as  goodness gracious me, but is an exclamation of surprise and can be used both positively or negatively. it was used positively in this instance.

gaun yersel is a bit harder to explain, but when archie gemmill scored againtst holland way back in the world cup after taking the ball round a number of players and scoring, households throughout scotland would most likely be shouting gaun yersel. or gaun yersel son. so it roughly means well done for that great individual performance.

Full of musical light and wonder.  This is special beyond measure good sir.  Beautiful, no words really to express how I am blown away by this beautiful song.  You have done it, perfection.  Thanks for bringing another side to the Zappa-fest, his range of music was huge, and this song is huge.  Well done.  You play that guitar-brass so good it is really hard to tell it is not a real wind instrument.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Amazing!  You should give up treating people with drugs and procedures and get down to seriously treating people's ears with music.

It's delightful. Sublime.

The standards for this festival are set really high! I have to do something to lower them!

Congratulations. And I see this is the first non-Geir Zappa cover! I was starting to suspect of the voting...

BTW, I'm a non-zappaer, so I've been looking for zappa things in youtube, and was stunned with G-spot tornado!
