Quote from: Donkeydoo on July 04, 2010, 04:28:22 PMBluesberry I think I know where you r coming from now.  Listening more to your stuff it would fit in as Alt Country if that includes Neil young. Umm interesting.  I did tell Riche to make it heavy in the End though (being a Black Sabbath fan) which reluctantly he did and made a good job.  yea maybe?
Thats what I mean, like Neil Young at his grungy best, heavy guitars, yet strumming open chords (like you are strumming an acoustic, not barre chords) and very melodic.  It is like doing a folk song that is normally done on acoustic but done with heavy guitars and big heavy guitar solos.  Like you guys did here.  The origins of Alt.Country was guys taking folk and country and punk rock and even a bit of heavy metal for good measure (like Sabbath) and they mixed this all together and it became Alt.Country,  This was in the early 80's.  One very good band at the fore-front of this new sound was Uncle Tupelo, that band ended up becoming Wilco eventually (one of my favorite bands).  That is what I am referring to as Alt.country.  It is not really country, it can get pretty heavy actually.  A better term may be grunge-folk or garage rock-folk-country.  It is more garage rock and grunge than country.  But there is a country flavour there, and folk instruments, mandolins and fiddles and steel guitars are part of the sound as well as grunge electric guitars.  I am a big time Alt.Country junkie.  There is a very big Alt.Country scene here in Canada and it is very vibrant, lots of very good bands.  It is also tied into the indie scene too.

Thanks for the great insight Bluesberry, I think you hit the nail on the head.  Me and my brother were early punk rockers and into the heavy metal scene (I used to wear a studded dog collar and had long hair) both used to like Neil Young to offset it.  Alan (played Classical guitar to a high standard many years ago) and used to like some weird stuff like grateful dead, Joy division, REM (like them now) etc later which I never got into.  Riche as you can tell is very melodic ie pink floyd, ballads etc.  I think when we get together all these influences combine and keep each other under control and get a great mix.  Left to my own devices as can be seen from my couple of my songs it's lacking these influences and my anger comes through.  But I suppose that's how bands work?  Lets hope we can get together again and produce something similar but with a tad more anger hehe.

Alost missed this one  .... glad I didn't !

Really great take on this song, production and performance is fab. Great mix of crispy clear and heavily distorted guitars. maybe bring the bass up a tad ( and not to stir up things, but  I'd like to hear the acoustic in there too !! :) )

Alan has got an MBR now but has also invested in a set of mouth organs so will be interesting to see how he gets on :) ..
