I like the girl doing the "Lay it Down" part. That's pretty cool.

This is great work you are doing, "T".
Sorry I can't help with a choice but they all have, nice flow, to their deliveries.
And their messages are all right on point.
I know too well the plight of kids making poor decisions and negatively affecting themselves and their communities.
It often takes an adult to reach out to them and show them that someone does care about their well being.
Well Done my friend... Nelson

Great stuff Tharek, I just jumped in and saw this. I need to carve out some time to give each performer a more detailed listen so I will post some more detailed comments later.  Overall, it's a really great piece and the combination of the backing track and the vocal performances work really, really well. I love the way it breaks down at the end as well. Very professional sounding effort, and very powerful as well.

I haven't listened to a lot of this type of material, but as I've just seen Sub Focus and Pendulum live where both have rather annoying MCs that (especially in Sub Focus' case) tend to shout out drivel, putting together a powerful rap and making it combine with the beats is not as easy as some people think. This is quality stuff here.

Great stuff, more comments later.

Cheers,

Nigel

OK, here's my more detailed feedback.

Hayden - really strong vocal delivery, the doubled vocal works really well. Hayden's got a great voice for this style of delivery. And the lyrics are excellent - the "Got my Pad and my Pen" summarizes the alternative approach in a few words and is really memorable.

Chorus Guest Vocal By Helen - superb, adds a great vocal "highlight" to the rapped vocals and a good musical hook. Gets the "Lay it down" message across well through repetition and gets in your head

Junior - great performance and a nice percussive delivery that emphasizes the beats. I really liked the lines "Stay out of gangs, Stop the Bang Bangs, Stop the knife crime" which get the message across really well and the way the words are phrased and delivered is perfect.

Michael - another strong performance, and I love the sound and mix on the vocals. Michael's voice really stands out and his delivery is a bit different which really makes this section jump out at you. Great dynamics in the track. The line "I'm 14, hope I make it to 25...." really gets the message across well.

Ashraf - has the best line of everyone: "To your Mum your her jewels on her crown" is brilliant. Every victim of knife crime that you see on TV has a grieving mum who is just as much a victim. Even though people not may have that much, a child is a treasure to every mother, this is great use of a few words to create a perfect picture of the impact of senseless violence.

Erkan - another very strong vocal performance, and great lyrics. Really clever use of street "talk" that creates a really striong rhythm through the rap that really complements the lyrics. It looks like a lot of work went into those lyrics. If it did take a lot of work to get them right, well done because they work really well. And if Erkan just rapped those lyrics, that is incredibly impressive.

Who do I think got the message across most? That's hard, they all did and everyone has some particular unique aspects of their lyrics and delivery that really get the message across. But if you force me to choose, it would be Hayden and Erkan, because both have complex lyrics that really work with the rhythm of the beats, and both get the message across that there is a real alternative to violence. Hayden says do music, use your "pad and pen", while Erkan focuses on family and music. Despite the fact that Junior and Ashraf have some great lines and I really like Michael's vocal mix and style, it has to be Hayden and Erkan for me.

Very well done to all of you, this is quality stuff.

Cheers,

Nigel
