Great song, great cover! Very well sung and played. There's some real power to your performance here.

Great performance of this classic song. I think the recording could be better though. There seems to be a lot of distortion and, on viewing the song in Audacity, my suspicions were confirmed -- the overall recording level was too high, resulting in a lot of clipping. Here's how it looks in Audacity (red is clipping).

It's been over two years since you posted this, so I assume you've gotten better at controlling your record levels. If you still have your original tracks for this, you might want to try re-mixing. It would be nice to hear it without the clipping.

Thanks for your comments about the mixing 64 Guitars. I was fairly new to using the BR600 at the time and I think my later tracks have been bit clearer. I downloaded Audacity a few months ago but never tried to mix a song with it.  I've played about with it trying to see if I could improve some of my songs (using the mp3 file) but after I've mixed on the BR600 and exported and converted to mp3, I think its too late to change anything much.  I must have a try at using Audacity for the mix down as I know a lot on here use it for that - am I right in thinking you have to export each individual wav track from the BR600 to do this?

Haylie, thanks too for you comments!

You can edit your MP3s in Audacity but it's not ideal. The problem is that Audacity has to decode the MP3 then re-encode it when you're done editing. Since MP3 is a lossy type of compression, this extra encoding throws away more data, reducing the quality of the sound slightly. If you want to edit a final mix (as opposed to the individual tracks), you should export it from the BR as a WAV file and work directly with that. That way, you're only converting it to MP3 once when you finish editing.

Yes, but its best to use the BR Wave Converter software for this since it can export all of the desired tracks in a single batch operation. Also, the BR Wave Converter works faster than the BR, especially if you put your BR-600's memory card into a USB card reader (the BR has USB 1.1 while card readers are usually USB 2.0 or USB 3.0).

Thanks for that 64 Guitars.  I followed a tutorial on YouTube on how to remove clipping and as I only have the MP3 file for this song I tried it on that.  Its now only showing about 4 red lines on clipping view. To my ears I'm not sure if there's a great difference but here it is if you want a listen!

I've run some of my other songs through Audacity as well and I seem to have a lot of clipping on most of them. I'll be paying more attention to my recording level in future now - appreciate you pointing this out for me!
