Changing effects in playback

I've obviously done something horribly wrong and I need some help please.  For some reason (perhaps I've mis-understood something) but I'm not able to change the effects whilst playbacking what I've recorded.  For example, I recorded with effects turned off and then wanted to see what it would sound like with the effects but nothing changes and it is exactly the same.  Can somebody please let me know.

By default, the insert effects are applied to the input signal (guitar, mic, etc), not the tracks. If you want to apply insert effects to the pre-recorded tracks, you have to change the insert point. See pages 64 and 65 in the Micro BR manual, 3rd edition.
