We're a bit late for the unplugged fest!  :D

Here's an acoustic version of the Jemima's Kite song 'Rainy Lorraine', featuring me on guitar (Tanglewood electro-acoustic) and James on vocals. There's also a dash of rain and thunder for added ambience. The music was all done on our MBR's.

It's been said before, but you can almost hear Rod Stewart singing this one   :)

I'm very fond of this song.

Wonderful stuff, not only do I need another MP3 player to hold every download it looks like another external drive is called for. I've tried recording my acoustic and all I get are creaks and fret buzz, what's the secret?  Willie

It's not really a secret, but both guitar quality and the quality of the onboard pre-amp and pick-ups etc play a big part in how it turns out. I have an old electro -acoustic Takamine that just sounds plain and ordinary when I record it through a lead straight into the BR. But in contrast, my Tanglewood sounds amazing. Remember, there are three ways to record your acoustic, and it's worth experimenting with all of them!

1. An electro-acoustic straight into the BR via a guitar lead. I tend to switch effects 'off' for a more natural sound. That's just my preference though.

2. As above, but simultaneously pressing the GTR+MIC buttons on the MBR's input to get a mix of lead and microphone recording. This sounds great and much more natural, but you pick up lots of extraneous noise (breathing, shuffling in your chair etc).

3. In-built microphone only. This is very natural sounding, but loses a bit of depth and sound quality. Sometimes it's the sound you're after though. The benefit of this way is that you can also add backing vocals at the same time.

It's all about experimenting, as all guitars are different. e.g. I have an Ibanez acoustic that sounds great through the lead, but has no depth acoustically through a mic.

Oh... this is important. Sometimes recording through a lead sounds a little 'dry'. So I always add some reverb (up to around 30 or 35)  which makes the acoustics sound more authentic.

I think I recorded this song as per option 1, with the effects switched off.

Guys, this is terrific!  8)

Great advice on recording guitars, Tim - now I wish I had an electro-acoustic! Alas, my acoustic is sans pickup.   ::)
